Prep Wrestling: Sloan Johannsen wins at 113, leads Watertown to second place in Floyd Farrand Invite

SIOUX FALLS — Sloan Johannsen won the 113-pound division and 11 other wrestlers placed to lead Watertown High School’s wrestling team to a second-place finish in the Floyd Farrand Invitational on Thursday.

Brandon Valley topped the 19-team field with 218 points, followd by Watertown at 191, Harrisburg 176.5, Sturgis 137 and Wagner 119.

Johannsen improved to 19-0 on the season by recorded four more wins, including an 8-3 decision over Vermillion’s Hayden Schroeder in the finals.

Connor Hanson (126) and Mac Young (182) each went 3-1 and added runner-up finishes in their respective divisions.

Other Arrow place winners were Brock Eitreim, 4-1 and third at 195; Micah Hach, 4-1 and third at 220; Carson Hansmann, 2-2 and fourth at 138; Jax Kettwig, 3-1 and fourth at 160; Braden Le, 4-2 and fifth at 120; Weston Everson, 3-2 and fifth at 132; Ian Johnson, 3-2 and fifth at 152; Ben Althoff, 3-3 and sixth at 170; and Jackson Maag, 3-3 and sixth at 182.

The Arrows will compete Friday and Saturday, Jan. 7 in the Bismarck (N.D.) Rotary Club Invitational.

Webster Area Invitational

WEBSTER — Three wrestlers from Webster Area, Clark-Willow Lake and Sioux Valley each won individual titles Thursday in the Webster Area Invitational.

Pipestone (Minn.) won the 13-team tourney with 140 points, followed by Clark-Willow Lake at 136.5, Sisseton 124.5, Border West (Mijnn.) 121.5 and Sioux Valley 102.5. Deuel was seventh (69), Webster Area ninth (61), Britton-Hecla 11th (29) and Ortonville, Minn. 12Th (27).

Area boys division champions Kayden Tchida of Sisseton, 98 pounds; Tate Steffensen of Sioux Valley, 106; Cael Larson of Webster Area, 138; Gunnar Kvistad of Clark-Willow Lake, 152; Russell Sheets of Sioux Valley, 160; Joe Hornick of Sioux Valley, 170; Lucas Kannegieter of Clark-Willow Lake, 182; Kasey Michalski of Clark-Willow Lake, 195; Caleb McGregor of Webster Area, 220; and Ethan Skarnagel of Sisseton, 285.

Brooklyn Conrad of Ortonville (132) and Abbigail Garrett of Webster Area (154) won girls division titles.

Other area place winners included:

Webster Area — Tayten Kurkowski, second at 98; and Haeden Jorgenson, fourth at 120.0

Sisseton — Reed Gray, second at 106; Holden Hawkins, second at 113; Ian Metz, second at 120; Boe Iverson, second at 132; Josh Long, third at 152; Mason Shultz, third at 182; and Mason Gray, fourth at 195.

Clark-Willow Lake — Cooper Pommer, fourth at 106; Taylor Merkel, fourth at 113; Dani Batchelor, second in girls’ 126; Elliot Bratland, second at 145; Braden Johnson, fourth at 160; Hunter Wren, fourth at 170; and Jerome Enboden, third at 195.

Ortonville — Cody Klepel, third at 106; and James Conrad, third at 285.

Deuel — Gavin Kloos, third at 126; Jaxon Quail, fourth at 132; Dominic Constant, second at 170; and Justin Granum, second at 195;

Britton-Hecla — Bryce Hawkinson, fourth at 126; Lorelai Piehl, third in girls’ 126; and Cecilia Anderson, second in girls’ 154.

Sioux Valley — Summer Guthmiller, second in girls’ 132; Skylar Trygstad, fourth at 145; and Owen VandeWeerd, fourth at 220.

McCook Central-Montrose Invite

SALEM — Kingsbury County placed six wrestlers and took 15th out of 19 teams in the McCook Central-Montrose Invitational wrestling tournament on Friday.

Canton won the tourney with 211 points. Kingsbury County scored 58.

Place winners for the Knights were Caden Murphy, sixth at 113 pounds; Kaleb Johnson, seventh at 126; Dylan Zell, fifth at 138; Caleb Clark, eighth at 145; Nate Kersting, eighth at 195; and Owen Kerkvliet, seven at 285.
