Local Sports: Jefferson wrestlers win tourney; Ida second at SMCC

LINCOLN PARK – Jefferson’s wrestling team turned in a dominant performance Saturday in the Lincoln Park Orange and Blue Classic.

The Bears amassed 248.5 points to easily outdistance runner-up Wyandotte Roosevelt with 157.5.

Flat Rock was 14th with 45.

Jefferson’s champions were Ty Rose (126), Issac Masserant (132), Carter Simota (150), Martre Pearson (157) and Anthony Cousino (215).

Daniel Allen (113) placed second, Joseph Peer (106), Ryder Mulherin (138) and Gabe Hall (190) third and Gary Rice (144) fifth.

“You are only as good as the work you put in the practice room and today it clearly showed we are heading in the right direction,” Jefferson coach Ryan Nadeau said.

Nick Dropiewski (fifth at 126) and Wyatt Mack (sixth at 150) were Flat Rock’s top finishers.

Ida takes second place

MONROE – Kaden Gerth, Josh Rose, Chris Galloway, Justin Crozier and Tristen Sedlar all went 5-0 as Ida took second place in the St. Mary Catholic Central Duals Saturday.Trevor Konieczny finished 4-1 as Ida evened its record at 11-11.

SMCC finished 2-2 with Brianna Lynch (106), MaryAlice Lynch (113), Eric Mathies (190), and Kyle Bashaw (215) winning all five of their matches.

Dundee splits

DETROIT – Dundee rolled to a 67-9 win over Allen Park and fell 44-18 to Cleveland St. Edwards Saturday in the Detroit Catholic Central Super Duals.

Cameron Chinavare (132) had a pin against St. Edwards and Mason Katschor (106), Kade Kluce (126), Blake Cosby (144) and Kole Katschor (165) also won.

All five of those wrestlers were unbeaten for the day.

Divine leads Bedford

TEMPERANCE – Cameron Divine racked up five goals and two assists as Bedford went 2-1 last week.

His week was highlighted by three goals and two assists in a 9-1 rout of Whitmer. He also scored goals in an 8-1 loss to Chelsea and 2-0 victory over Dexter.
