Here are 50 names you need to know in Region sports over the next 12 months. They are listed in alphabetical order for boys and girls.
BOYS
Luke Beaudrie, Jefferson football-basketball: Took over at quarterback and became a key member of the basketball team as a freshman.
Cameron Chinavare, Dundee wrestling: A defending state champion who has committed to Division 1 Central Michigan.
Tanner Collett, Monroe football: Already a two-year starter who is coming off an All-Region sophomore season at linebacker that saw him record 59 tackles.
Blake Cosby, Dundee wrestling: Wrestled several classes above his natural weight as a freshman and took second in the state. One of the best in the country this year.
Brock Cousino, SMCC football-basketball: May have been the best player for the Falcons as a sophomore. The linebacker made the All-Region team with 66 tackles.
Tyler Dafoe, Summerfield football-basketball: Was All-Region in football and basketball and currently leads the basketball team in scoring.
Tommy Huss, Bedford baseball: Coming off an All-Region football season. Stood out both as a hitter and pitcher in an All-Region baseball season as a junior.
Lukas Johnson, Monroe basketball: Was a special-mention selection last season, but wants more in 2024. He came into 2024 averaging 17.2 points per game.
Graham Junge, Flat Rock football-basketball: He was an All-Stater in football as a quarterback and should have a good shot at All-State in basketball as well.
Kyle Kantola, New Boston Huron basketball-baseball: The leading scorer for the basketball team and an All-Region baseball player who hit .326 and carried a 0.76 ERA last season.
Kole Katschor, Dundee wrestling: Won a state championship as a sophomore.
Carter Klawonn, Bedford golf: Will defend his Monroe County Region Player of the Year award this spring.
Joe Krolak, Gibraltar Carlson football: Gibraltar Carlson really took off when he settled in at quarterback. The All-Region player threw for 1,069 yards and ran for 626.
Jaxon Nejedlik, Bedford boys tennis: Moved up to No. 1 singles for the first time and set school records for season and career wins in being named Monroe County Region Player of the Year.
Trey Oldenburg, Jefferson basketball: Was homeschooled until midway through last season, but has quickly become one of the Region’s top basketball players as a sophomore.
Ian Petrick, New Boston Huron soccer: Set a school record with 39 goals and added 18 assists in an All-Region sophomore season.
Breyon Richards, Monroe baseball: Was an All-Region lineman in football this fall, but his first love is baseball. The Wayne State recruit hit .333 with 23 RBI last spring.
Nolan Sanders, Airport sophomore: Re-wrote the school record book with 38 goals and 27 assists as a sophomore, including 11 game-winning goals.
AJ Schrader, Ida basketball: A third-year starter who has blossomed into his team’s top scoring option.
Buddy Snodgrass, SMCC basketball: An All-Region choice last year who is almost a guaranteed double-double every time he takes the court.
Jacob Stanislawski, Flat Rock cross country: Earned Monroe County Region Boys Runner of the Year honors as a junior and broke his own school record with a time of 16:00.4 in winning a Regional championship.
Logan Tammerine, Whiteford baseball: Coach Terry Pant has called him the best hitter he’s ever coached and last spring became a standout as a pitcher.
Jackson Wertenberger, Ida football: The offensive line was the best part of Ida’s football team and this All-Region player was one of the best on the Blue Streak line.
Braiden Whitaker, Dundee football-basketball: Has Division 1 offers in both football and basketball. Made the All-Region football as a receiver in football as a receiver and currently is the Region’s top scorer in basketball.
Izaiah Wright, Gibraltar Carlson football-track: Played varsity as a freshman, but really made his mark this season with 1,965 rushing yards and 31 touchdowns. A state qualifier in track.
GIRLS
Sophie Bucki, Airport girls golf: Tied for medalist honors in the Monroe County Championships and was named Player of the Year as a junior.
Sophia Bussell, Monroe basketball: Set school records for points (36) and 3-pointers (10) in a game as a sophomore.
Lila Clements, New Boston Huron basketball: Has a chance to reach 1,000 career points this season after making the All-Region team as a junior.
Jessica Costlow, SMCC volleyball: Was the Monroe County Region Player of the Year as a sophomore, made the All-State team this year and has committed to University of Toledo.
Leila Daniels, Milan softball: An All-Region catcher who batted .417 last spring.
RaeAnn Drummond, Airport basketball-softball: A starter in basketball and hit .478 and won 15 games in an All-Region softball season as a junior.
Sarah Giroux, Flat Rock volleyball: Became the best player for the Rams as a freshman, making the All-Region team with 262 kills and 252 digs.
Victoria Gray, Bedford volleyball-basketball: She was the Monroe County Region Basketball Player of the Year last year and was named Region Volleyball Player of the Year this fall. A shoulder injury has slowed her early in basketball season this year.
Aubrey Hensley, Bedford basketball-softball: A starter in basketball and already owns school records for career and season home runs in softball.
Kennedy Irwin, Dundee basketball-softball: An All-Region selection in softball last spring after hitting .456 with a school-record 64 runs, 51 stolen bases.
Gracie Jones, Jefferson volleyball-basketball-softball: A standout for the Bears in all three of her sports.
Addison Kopp, Flat Rock basketball-softball: A standout in basketball and an All-Region softball choice as a sophomore after hitting .383.
Jenna Kuzara, New Boston Huron softball: Made All-Region after batting .551 with 43 runs and 33 RBI as a junior.
Mary Alice Lynch, SMCC wrestling-track: Recently recorded her 100th career victory on the wrestling mat and a state qualifier as a hurdler in track.
Nyah Mullins, Bedford basketball-softball: All-Region in both sports last season, including a .471 batting average in softball.
Unity Nelson, Whiteford softball: Went 23-1 with a 0.51 earned-run average and 317 strikeouts in making All-Region last spring.
McKenna Payne, SMCC volleyball: There is nothing she can’t do on the court. She was an All-Stater as a freshman as a hitter, a libero as a sophomore and a setter as a junior.
Angelina Pena, Milan wrestling: A three-time state champion.
Payton Pudlowski, Bedford basketball-softball: An All-Region choice in both of her sports last year and has stepped up her game in basketball so far this season.
Marisa Rostash, Monroe tennis: Was Monroe County Region Player of the Year as a freshman and sophomore at St. Mary Catholic Central and last year at Monroe.
Jessica Schrader, Ida volleyball-basketball-softball: All-Region special mention in volleyball and softball, but her best sport is basketball. She is averaging nearly 18 points per game this season.
Kaylin Schroder, Bedford volleyball: Artfully orchestrated Bedford’s offense with 1,256 assists and also had 421 digs in an All-Region season.
Mariah Stines, Milan volleyball-basketball-softball: Starter in all three sports. Her best is softball, where she was All-Region with 16 wins and 1.19 ERA.
Elizabeth Sweeney, Erie Mason volleyball-track: Earned a spot on the All-Region volleyball team and was the voted the Most Valuable Girls Athlete at the Mason Track and Field Invitational.
Malea Wourman, Milan volleyball-basketball-track: She was the Monroe County Region Girls Athlete of the Year as a sophomore and got her junior year off to a great start by making All-Region in volleyball.
