Prep sports: Anderson leads East to victory at Big Nine cross country

OWATONNA — Isaiah Anderson was the individual winner, leading Mankato East to the championship at the Big Nine Conference boys cross country meet Tuesday at Brooktree Golf Course.

East scored 29 points, with Northfield in second at 82. Mankato West placed fourth at 127.

Anderson's winning time was 15:48.8. Luke Scholtes finished third at 16:09.2, with Audi Thom in sixth at 16:29.4, Evan MacLean in eighth at 16:32.7 and Dayton Clobes in 11th at 16:42.2.

West's top finisher was Ephraim Staley, who placed fifth at 16:27.4. Ethan Cox was 24th at 17:17.6, followed by Landon Bannerman in 28th at 17:27.2, Ian Kim in 34th at 17:36.0 and Ian Risto in 36th at 17:39.3.

Northfield won the girls race with 44 points. West took fourth at 131, one spot ahead of East at 163.

Abigail Tri of Rochester John Marshall was the individual winner at 18:55.5.

West's Landree Quint placed third at 19:17.8, and Reese Quint took 26th at 20:52.2. Hannah James finished 29th at 21:00.6, Zoe Williams placed 34th at 21:04.5, and Chloe Aanenson took 39th at 21:13.2.

Lauren Henkels placed 12th at 19:55.8 to lead the Cougars. Tori Blasl placed 28th at 20:53.2, followed by Madison Wolle in 35th at 21:04.6, Elsie Bennett in 41st at 21:18.1 and Nora Javens in 47th at 21:47.1.

Volleyball

Mankato West 3, Albert Lea 0: Ella Olson made 11 kills as the Scarlets won 25-12, 25-19, 25-9 in a Big Nine Conference victory at the West gym.

Addison Kuiper had seven kills, and Allison Banse made 15 digs for West (14-9).

Edgerton 3, Madelia 0: Ashlynn Sweet made four blocks, and Ashley Sorenson had 11 assists in Madelia's 25-9, 25-21, 25-23 nonconference loss at home.

Madelia (12-15) hosts Granada-Huntley-East Chain/Martin Luther/Truman on Monday in the first round of the Section 2A playoffs.

Glencoe-Silver Lake 3, Lake Crystal Wellcome Memorial 0: Maggie Graupman made 11 kills in the Knight's nonconference loss at Glencoe.

Scores were 25-21, 25-13, 25-22.

Grace Sandmeyer had seven kills, and Avery Voges made 18 digs.

LCWM (16-8) opens the section tournament Monday at home against Janesville-Waldorf-Pemberton.

Minnesota Valley Lutheran 3, Nicollet 1: Mackenzie Merseth had 14 kills and 21 digs in the Chargers' 25-11, 25-18, 26-28, 25-4 nonconference home win.

Gabbie Bleick added 12 kills, and Kerigan Brau had 28 assists and 15 digs.

Leah Bode led Nicollet with seven kills.

MVL (10-14) begins section play Monday at Waseca. Nicollet has a playoff game at Mankato Loyola on Thursday.

Waterville-Elysian-Morristown 3, Hayfield 1: Claire Bohle made 22 kills and 15 digs as the Bucs won 25-21, 25-17, 25-27, 25-21 in a Gopher Conference home match.

Addison Condon added 13 kills and 21 digs, and Liza Baker made 25 assists. Josephine Volkmann had a team-high 25 digs, and Grace Baker served six aces.

WEM (21-8) hosts a playoff game on Monday.

Cleveland 3, Wabasso 0: Greta Hahn had 33 assists and 14 digs as Cleveland won 25-23, 30-28, 25-18 in a nonconference home match.

Ava Hahn led the Clippers with 19 kills, and Laci Hollerich added nine kills.

Cleveland (23-6) hosts a playoff game Monday.

Girls swimming & diving

Mankato East 84, Albert Lea 75: Avery Schuh had four victories in the Cougars' Big Nine Conference win at Albert Lea.

Tiana Huynh, Cami Schuh, Kelsey Andresen and Avery Schuh teamed up to win the 200-yard medley relay in 2:01.81. Avery Schuh, Brittan Hoffman, Emma Born and Cami Schuh won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:47.76. Cami Schuh, Brittan Hoffman, Born and Avery Schuh won the 400 freestyle relay in 3:57.64.

Avery Schuh also won the 100 butterfly in 1:05.69.

In the 200 freestyle, Elayna Lucero placed first in 2:18.81. Sophie Steindl won the 200 individual medley in 2:41.99, and Reagan Steindl took first in diving with 174.90 points.
