Prep report: MI-B cruises in playoff hoops opener

Mar. 7—T.J. DuChamp, Chris King and MiCaden Clines all scored 20 points as the Rangers rolled to victory over Ely 73-53 in their first test of Section 7A tournament at home on Thursday night in Mountain Iron.

King dominated the game inside, posting 17 rebounds and four blocks, while DuChamp added seven assists and a team-best four 3-pointers, and Clines recorded five assists and three steals.

The top seed in this year's 7A tournament, Cherry had no trouble, getting 26 points from Noah Sundquist and 17 apiece from Isaiah Asuma and Landon Ruotsalainen. Isaac Asuma recorded 19 points and nine assists.

Dylan Nyberg and Brady Dahl bagged 26 points apiece as the Cardinals advanced from the first round of the 7A tournament on Thursday, March 7.

The visiting Vikings were within eight points, 33-25, at halftime, but the Cardinals did not relent.

Denali Blackwell paced Cook County with 19 points.

The Ogichidaag pulled the upset on Thursday night in Remer and will face Cromwell-Wright on Saturday in the fourth of four section quarterfinals to be played in Hibbing.
