Prep Baseball: Bedford starts nine seniors; Monroe streak hits 13

TEMPERANCE – Senior Day for Bedford’s baseball team was all about the seniors.

The Mules have nine seniors on the roster and all of them started the first game of a doubleheader against Dexter.

Unfortunately, it wasn’t the best day for the seniors.

Bedford lost both ends of the double dip, 9-1 and 6-2.

The Mules managed just four singles in the first game by Connor Gambino, Tommy Huss, Josh Shepherd and Luke Davis. Huss was tagged for six runs over the first four innings, but none of them were earned.

Bedford committed five errors.

The Mules were slightly better on defense in the second game, making only three errors. Unfortunately, that matched their hit total.

Huss hit a solo home run, but the only other hits were singles by Shepherd and Brendan Korsnack.

Bedford scored a run in the sixth inning to tie the game at 2-2, but Dexter scored four times in the top of the seventh.

Monroe streak hits 13

ANN ARBOR – Monroe beat Ann Arbor Skyline twice by 5-2 scores Monday to run its winning streak to 13 games Monday.

Carson Liedel had a pair of doubles and drove in four runs, Braden Pearce delivered two hits and an RBI and earned a two-inning save in the second game and Owen Yount stole three bases and picked up a save for the 23-6-1 Trojans.

Ryan Sieler and Drew Scznsny contributed two hits each in the first game.

Pitching wins went to Kellen Roberts and Liedel.

Hayden McIntosh executed a suicide squeeze bunt to plate the winning run in the bottom of the eighth inning as Monroe's junior varsity completed a doubleheader sweep with a 7-6 win. The Trojans won the first game 5-2 and now stand at 10-17-1.

Nye delivers for Jets

MILAN – Cooper Nye came through with a two-run single in the eighth inning as Airport pulled out a 7-4 win over Milan Monday.

Shade Daniels went 3-for-4 and Nye added two hits for the Jets.

Sean Langton had a no-hitter going with one out in the seventh. A hit batter and two walks loaded the bases for Holden Gates who drove in two runs with a single, then Jaxon Morawski singled home two more.

Luke Gebhardt pitched well for 16-10 Milan.

Elliott leads Flat Rock

FLAT ROCK – Ben Elliott went 3-for-4 to lead a 14-hit attack by Flat Rock in a 9-4 win over St. Mary Catholic Central Monday.

Evan Szalay, Anthony Hernandez, Brendan Smothers and Brian Booms added two hits apiece for the Rams.

Joey Godfrey earned the win.

Nolan Moore was 2-for-2 with three RBI to lead SMCC. Calvin Bradley and Tommy Rogoff also collected two hits.

Big game for Schroeder

SAND CREEK – Lead-off hitter Trevor Schroeder set the stage for Dundee Monday, going 3-for-3 with four RBI and four runs in a 15-2 rout of Sand Creek.

Evan Imo and Drew Bolster each added two hits and two RBI. Bolster and Schroeder both homered.

Cam Fairchild got the win with relief help from Ryan Zanger.

Huron pounds Bears

Myles Grace tripled and drove in five runs as New Boston Huron overwhelmed Jefferson 15-0 Monday.

Gavin Moczydlowsky and Connor Grant each notched two hits and two RBI. Kyle Kantola and Lucas Coll did not give up a hit in the three-inning game.

Jefferson, which had one baserunner via a walk, dipped to 7-21-1.

Big innings lifts Bulldogs

PETERSBURG – Summerfield broke open a close game with a five-run third inning and went on to beat Washtenaw Christian 12-5 Monday.

Bryce Kalb carried the big bat for the Bulldogs (11-8) with three hits, including a pair of doubles. Tyler Dafoe added two hits and Keegan Sieler and Reece Kalb handed the pitching.

Champs blank Whiteford

SYLVANIA, Ohio – Caden Schroyer collected two hits, but Whiteford fell 3-0 to defending state champion Sylvania Northview Monday.

Logan Tammerine pitched well for the 16-9 Bobcats.
