Predictions for the MHSAA girls basketball state finals, scores and matchups

With MHSAA girls basketball state playoffs heating up and upsets occurring, teams are chasing their goal of making it to the big house at Mississippi Coliseum.

With two weeks left until 14 teams compete in their respective classes' state final, the Clarion-Ledger predicts the final matchups and winners in each.

Class 7A

Champion: St. Martin

A repeat of the Class 7A Region 4 final, where St. Martin came out on top. And the Yellow Jackets, who are looking for their first girls basketball state title, will prevail against Biloxi behind Kaleah Lowery, La'dymein Lafayette, and Kylenn Ward.

Score: St. Martin 59, Biloxi 54.

Class 6A

Champion: Neshoba Central

Neshoba Central will face Terry in the state final. With just one loss this season, Kyli Truss and Zharia Leflore have kept the Rockets at the top of MHSAA and Class 6A.

Score: Neshoba Central 63, Terry 57.

Class 5A

Champion: Laurel

A possible upset is looming with Laurel to face one of the top teams in MHSAA against Pontotoc in the semifinals of the Class 5A state playoffs. Laurel, led by Kayllis Walker and Zy Evans, is on track to win its second program title since winning the Class 5A title in 2021 and will do so with coach Sherri Cooley's talented squad.

Score: Laurel 69, Canton 60.

Class 4A

Champion: Choctaw Central

Choctaw Central's title hopes have been evident since the outset. On a 19-game winning streak, and not losing a game since Dec. 9, the Warriors, led by Mattison and Kylinn Bell, will aim for their second Class 4A title in two years. Choctaw Central will face a hungry Tishomingo County team, which lost to Choctaw in the 2022 title game and will aim for revenge in the Coliseum.

Score: Choctaw Central 62, Tishomingo County 65.

Class 3A

Champion: Booneville

A chance at history. Booneville can become the first MHSAA girls basketball team to win three consecutive state titles. Standing in its way will be talented Jefferson Davis County. Booneville, led by Sa'niyah Cook and Kaylee Johnson, has lost just one game this season and will be going into the state finals with as much momentum as they started the season with.

Score: Booneville 60, Jefferson Davis County 52.

Class 2A

Champion: Bogue Chitto

Having a zero in the loss column means having a target on your back. So far, Bogue Chitto, with DeMya Porter, hasn't been fazed. With a record of 28-0, the Bobcats have been tearing through Class 2A, outscoring opponents by 650 total points. They will face a talented Ingomar team that has won three titles in the past four years.

Score: Bogue Chitto 64, Ingomar 61.

Class 1A

Champion: Blue Mountain

If there's an opportunity for Blue Mountain, it's now. The Cougars have easily flown through Class 1A with a 26-1 record. Standing in their path is a Lumberton squad that hasn't lost since Jan. 5.

Score: Blue Mountain 53, Lumberton 48.
