Yankees target Blake Snell signing two-year deal with Giants

Yankees target and reigning NL Cy Young Award winner Blake Snell is signing with the San Francisco Giants on a multi-year deal, as first reported by Jon Heyman of the New York Post.

Snell has agreed to a two-year, $62 million contract, which contains an opt-out after this season and a $17 million signing bonus to be paid in 2026.

Snell is fresh off his second Cy Young campaign, when he had an MLB-leading 2.25 ERA and a 1.19 WHIP across 32 starts for the San Diego Padres.

The Yankees initially made Snell an offer over the winter, but the left-hander's camp rejected it and New York pivoted to sign Marcus Stroman to a two-year, $37 million contract.

Reports were that the Yankees engaged Snell's camp again later in the offseason, especially when reigning AL Cy Young winner Gerrit Cole went down with an elbow injury, but SNY's Andy Martino reported that Cole's status did not change the team's stance on Snell.

Snell's addition would have put him as the Yankees No. 2 starter behind Cole, and as the temporary ace until Cole returned.
