Is it possible for the Boston Celtics’ season to be going TOO well?

Is it possible for the Boston Celtics’ season to be going too well for their designs on NBA title contention? While it might seem like an absurd question at first blush, when a ball club finds little resistance on its path to the NBA Finals, can there be the necessary growth to win it all?

Such was the question posed by The Athletic’s Zach Harper in a recent article. “I realize it’s a potentially stupid question, and maybe it’s a 100 percent stupid question,” he begins, fairly. “The Celtics just haven’t really been tested much this season.”

“In one-possession games in the final three minutes, their offense has been awful, and they’re just 11-10 in those games,” adds the Athletic NBA analyst.

“Do they need more practice?” he asks. “Will none of this matter because having the best offense in NBA history means they’re going to obliterate the East? Should they tank some fourth quarters to get some more clutch reps?”

“Are they so good that we just have to ask dumb questions like this to spark interest before the postseason?” Harper ponders, and we find ourselves divided on this question as well. There’s a very good chance we are simply seeing the evolution of one of the league’s more talented squads.

We might also be onto something here. But we hope not — and we doubt it.
