Portsmouth's Honda, Oyster River's Myles O'Quinn are Athletes of the Week for Oct. 2-7

The Seacoast High School Athletes of the Week winners are Portsmouth soccer player Ailish Honda and Oyster River golfer Myles O'Quinn for the week of Oct. 2-7. The weekly vote highlighting the week's outstanding high school athletes is presented by York County Community College.

Honda joins previous fall 2023 girls Athlete of Week winners: Exeter soccer player Lauren Roeder, Portsmouth field hockey player Audrey Walsh, St. Thomas Aquinas soccer player Maddie Karsonovich, Winnacunnet soccer player Maitri Clifford and St. Thomas Aquinas soccer player Kate Burrus.

O'Quinn joins previous winners: Spaulding football player Hunter Trueman, Portsmouth unified soccer player Riley Willard, Oyster River soccer player Logan Piller, Portsmouth/Oyster River football player Angus Moss and Winnacunnet golfer Jimmy Schouller.

The weekly poll runs each Monday through midnight Thursday, and can be found at seacoastonline.com/sports and fosters.com/sports.

Q'Quinn collected 39% of the online votes, for a total of 177, to capture this week' award. St. Thomas Aquinas football player Trent Salyards finished second with 95 votes.

Marshwood football player Ryan Essex received 73 votes, Winnacunnet soccer player Miles Pratt had 66 votes and York cross country athlete Aidan Ring had 36, for third through fifth, respectively.

O'Quinn shot a 31 in the Bobcats' first-place finish in a four-team match last Tuesday, and shot a 33 in Oyster River's second-place finish in a four-team match on Wednesday.

"(O'Quinn) is one of the best players in the state, very calm under pressure and is a former Portsmouth country club champion," Oyster River head coach Paul Bamford said. "Incredible consistency all year, culminating in rounds of 31 and 33 in his two last matches at The Oaks in Cocheco. A joy to have on the team."

Honda secured 30% of the online voting, with a total of 149 votes. Exeter field hockey player Izzy Steiner finished second with 130 votes.

Spaulding volleyball Kennidee Becton received 93 votes, Dover field hockey player Gaby Anderson had 83 votes and Somersworth soccer player Lucy Laratonda had 45 votes, third through fifth, respectively.

Honda scored three goals in the first 15 minutes for Portsmouth in Friday's Division I win over Spaulding, and scored a goal in last Tuesday's win over Windham.

"Well deserved, (Honda) is a dominant force in the midfield for us," Portsmouth head coach Mickey Smith said. "She understands the game at a very deep level, and she has innate vision and creativity that we don't often see at the high school level. She's second on the team with nine goals and also second with three assists."
