Portage HS scores | April 29: Field softball tops Coventry, moves to 10-0 in MAC
COVENTRY TWP. — Mckayla Miller turned on a high pitch and blasted it over the left-field wall for her first home run of the year and Maddie Burge added her ninth in the later innings Monday as Field remained undefeated in Metro Athletic Conference softball with a 16-5 victory over host Coventry.
After Scarlet Dimeff gave the Comets the lead with a solo shot in the first, Miller tied it with her homer in the second and Jessica Pollard added a two-run triple to the left-field gap before the inning was through.
The Falcons (10-0) scored four runs apiece in the second and fourth innings and seven in the sixth, which was plenty for Burge in the circle.
After allowing three runs on four hits over the first two innings, Burge hit a groove, including three straight scoreless innings as Field built a big lead.
Lilli Sutkowy and Miller led the Falcons at the plate, each reaching in all four of their appearances, with three hits and a walk apiece.

Mogadore 10, Southeast 1
The Wildcats clinched the Portage Trail Conference championship with a win over the Pirates. Mogadore's league title is its fourth in the last five seasons and first outright since 2019.
Streetsboro 12, Woodridge 1

The Rockets (10-11) more than tripled their win total from a year ago by sweeping the Bulldogs.
Khloe Cutright and Amy Rein each homered and drove in three runs in Streetsboro's win in the first game while Hailey Miller singled, doubled and drove in two runs. Miller doubled twice in the Rockets victory in the second game, and Olivia DeToro also homered and doubled.
Aurora 11, Barberton 0
All-senior battery pitcher McKennah Metzger and catcher Madeline Dalessandro delivered a perfect game with Metzger tossing 39 of her 50 pitches for strikes and striking out eight.
Metzger also went 3 for 3 with a team-high four RBIs, and Sophie Petrash and Sophie Schecterman also finished 3 for 3 with Schecterman coming a homer shy of the cycle.
Rootstown 8, Lake Center 2
The Rovers erupted for four runs in the third inning and three in the sixth, and that was plenty for Chloe Gardner, who allowed just one run in five strong innings, and Shelbie Krieger, who tossed the final two. Krieger also doubled and homered, going 3 for 4 with four RBIs.
Natalie Hammerschmidt and Reise Thomas also finished 3 for 4, with Thomas knocking in three runs and coming a home run shy of the cycle.
Baseball
Streetsboro 11, Norton 0
Josh Boldin hit the first grand slam in the history of American Legion Field, Jack Batten went 3 for 3 with a triple and three RBIs and Jack Pincoe tossed a five-hit shutout.
JFK 7, Rootstown 2
Caleb Hadley went 3 for 3 with a double, while Michael Condoleon and Andrew Lapolla added two hits apiece for the Eagles. Jaden Rishel held the Rovers to just two runs (both unearned), scattering three hits and two walks and striking out seven.
Windham 27, Fairport Harding 1
The Bombers scored eight-plus runs in three straight innings to jump way ahead of the Skippers.
Every Windham batter had a hit, including huge games by Brian King (3 for 4, four runs, four RBIs), Dylan McCune (3 for 4, two doubles, three runs, two RBIs) and Jack Eye (3 for 4, triple, four runs, three RBIs).
King and McCune also excelled on the mound, with King tossing three hitless and scoreless innings, and McCune pitching the final two innings. Both fanned five.
Southeast 16, Aquinas 3
Nate Muncy reached in all four of his plate appearances, going 3 for 3 with a double and a home run, and Bradee Blankenship and Caleb Miller added a triple apiece for the Pirates.
Southeast's Joe Sharish and Caleb Martin held Aquinas to three runs (all unearned) in five innings.
Field 16, Springfield 3
Drexal McAmis led the way for the Falcons, hitting for the cycle and knocking in three runs, and Ethan Rinehart added a double and three singles.
Kayden Smith tossed a gem, holding the Spartans to two hits over six innings and striking out nine.
Lake Center 12, Mogadore 2
Dylan Maninga threw a complete game for the Tigers (16-1, 7-0 Portage Trail Conference), striking out 12. Harrison Coblentz went 4 for 5 with a double, home run and four RBIs, while Nathan Bryant went 2 for 4 with a double, homer and three RBIs.
Devin Graham and Ronnie Skye led the Wildcats (9-5, 5-2) with two hits apiece.
Garfield 12, Brookfield 0
Aidan Hill and Brandyn Bogucki combined to shut out the Warriors, with Hill allowing one hit and striking out 11 over five innings and Bogucki tossing a perfect sixth.
Up 5-0 through five innings, the G-Men cemented their win with a seven-run sixth. Alex Carter led Garfield at the plate, going 4 for 4.
