Pop Isaacs set to transfer from Texas Tech basketball, according to reports

The Texas Tech basketball team will likely have a new leading scorer next season.

First reported by Jeff Goodman of The Field of 68, sophomore guard Pop Isaacs is reportedly set to enter the transfer portal. As of 9 p.m. Saturday night, he is not officially in the portal, per a Texas Tech spokesman.

Isaacs led the Red Raiders in scoring this past season, averaging 15.8 points per game in 32.8 minutes of action. He shot 29.3% from 3-point range and 34% from the field overall, also averaging 3.2 rebounds and 3.4 assists per game.

The Las Vegas native was named a third-team all-Big 12 selection by conference coaches and a second team honoree by the AP.

Isaacs is currently in a legal battle after being accused of sexual assault of a teenaged girl during the Red Raiders' trip to the Bahamas for the Battle 4 Atlantis. The lawsuit, which was filed in the 237th District Court in Lubbock, accuses Isaacs of raping the girl.

Isaacs continued to play for the Red Raiders as the legal proceedings have played out. Texas Tech University's Title IX office said Isaacs "remains in good standing" at the time of the suit becoming public Jan. 5. Head coach Grant McCasland said the next day "the statement that was made by the University is the one I'm gonna stand by and we're committed to that."

On Thursday, Isaacs and his legal counsel, Lubbock attorney David Kerby, were set to appear in court asking that the suit be refiled. The suit, which seeks $1 million in damages, was filed by the 17-year-old girl's parents, who asked to use pseudonyms Jane and John Doe to protect the identity of their daughter, who is listed as Janie Doe in the suit.

Isaacs responded to the suit in late February by denying the allegations, calling the suit "false and baseless in nature."

This would make the third transfer decision of the offseason for the Red Raiders. Earlier Saturday, it was reported Robert Jennings would also be moving on while KyeRon Lindsay entered the transfer portal earlier this week.

Isaacs will have two years of eligibility remaining.
