The polls are open! Vote for the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week

Sixteen athletes from across the High Desert are in the running for the Victorville Chevrolet High School Athlete of the Week.

Daily Press readers can vote for their favorite high school athletes at the newspaper's website.

The poll closes on Wednesday night.

Here are the choices for the week, based on performances from April 29 to May 4.

Area Roundup: Silverado beats Indio to reach 2nd round of CIF-SS Div. 7 baseball playoffs

  • Austin Allan, Oak Hills baseball — Austin Allan drove in six runs to lead the Bulldogs to an 18-1 victory over Barstow in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs. Austin ended a triple shy of the cycle, by going 3 for 4 with a three-run home run, six RBIs and two runs.

  • Brady Fonville, Apple Valley golf — Brady led all shooters over two days at the Mojave River League Finals at Apple Valley Golf Course. Brady carded a score of 66 on the first day, and then ended with a two-day total of 134. Over the two days, Fonville bogeyed just one hole.

  • Danaka Pelayes, Academy of Careers & Exploration softball — Danaka led the offensive charge for the Eagles in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 7 playoffs by going 5 for 5 with two RBIs, four runs and two stolen bases in a 23-2 victory over Nuview Bridge.

  • Daylin Hoenisch, Oak Hills softball — Daylin tallied three hits as the Bulldogs beat Monrovia 13-3 in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs. Daylin ended the day going 3 for 4 with a RBI and three runs.

  • Elijah Lovett, Academy for Academic Excellence track and field — Elijah led all boys runners in the 800 race at the CIF-SS Division 4 Prelims with a mark of 1:58.16. Elijah also qualified in the 1,600 run by finishing third overall, and first in his heat, with a time of 4:25.57.

  • Jace Weiss, Silverado baseball — Jace didn’t allow a hit over six innings as the Hawks beat Indio 14-2 in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 7 playoffs. Jace struck out eight batters. Jace also had a big day at the plate going 2 for 3 with a triple, a RBI and three runs.

  • Jazmine Gonzalez, Granite Hills softball — Jazmine led the offense by going 3 for 3 with four RBIs and a run as the Cougars beat Flintridge Prep 11-1 in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs.

  • Isaac Tovar, Oak Hills tennis — Isaac didn’t drop a set in singles action as the Bulldogs won two matches in the CIF-SS Division 6 playoffs. Isaac swept with scores of 6-1, 6-0, 6-0 in a 16-2 victory over Adelanto in the first round. In a 15-3 victory over Colton in the second round, Isaac also swept with scores of 6-1, 6-1, 6-0.

  • Mady Bradshaw, Serrano stunt — Mady racked up 50 points against Arlington, and 24 against Patriot, competing in all 18 routines for the Diamondbacks’ stunt team. Mady ended the season by scoring 39 points against Elsinore.

  • Nate Carlson, Academy of Careers & Exploration golf — Nate captured the singles title at the Cross Valley League Finals after ending with a two-day total of 133 strokes at Apple Valley Golf Course. Nate shot a 66 on the first day of the finals, and then a 67 on the second day.

  • Peyton Gaytan, Apple Valley softball — Peyton played a huge part in the Sun Devils beating Kaiser 14-11 in the wild-card round of the CIF-SS Division 5 playoffs. Peyton powered the offense with two home runs, ending 4 for 5 with six RBIs, four runs and a stolen base.

  • Rachel Lillibridge, Riverside Prep softball — Rachel led the Silver Knights to an 8-5 victory over Bishop Contay-Loretto in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 7 playoffs. Rachel spun four scoreless innings in the circle with five strikeouts. She had a big day at the dish going 4 for 4 with two triples, four RBIs and three runs.

  • Sam Minghelli, Excelsior softball — Sam powered the offense in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 8 playoffs by going 4 for 4 with four RBIs, two runs and a stolen base as Excelsior beat Santa Ana 15-3.

  • Savannah Vanderpool, Sultana softball — Savannah struck out six batters and allowed just three hits in the first round of the CIF-SS Division 4 playoffs. Savannah also had a pair of hits at the plate in the 7-2 victory over Wilson.

  • Tommy Fernandez, Silverado swimming — Tommy qualified for the CIF-SS Division 4 Finals and had a strong showing there. He took seventh place after posting a mark of 5:07.22 in the 500-yard freestyle. In the 200-yard individual medley, Tommy took 11th place with a time of 2:08.74. Tommy also participated in the 400-yard freestyle relay, and the team posted a time of 3:40, which was good for 15th place.

  • Zachary Roberts, Academy of Careers & Exploration baseball — Zachary struck out nine batters and allowed just two hits to lead the Eagles into the second round of the Division 8 playoffs in a 9-0 victory over Cate. Zachary also led the offense by going 3 for 3 with three RBIs and two runs.

Nominations must be received for consideration by Sunday morning following that week's games. Anyone can nominate an Athlete of the Week for every varsity sport.
