Please don't spoil 'Game of Thrones' for Astros pitcher Tyler Clippard

Everybody knows Sunday night is reserved for peak television. It’s the one time a week people actually logout of their Twitter accounts and stop checking their phones. No one wants to be spoiled.

With “Game of Thrones” back and in its seventh season, that’s even more important. If you can’t watch it live, you have to be extra careful to avoid spoilers the next day.

New Houston Astros reliever Tyler Clippard knows the feeling. Clippard did not finish watching “Game of Thrones” on Sunday, but he had a good reason for turning off the program.

Yep, Chicago White Sox general manager Rick Hahn called Clippard to tell him he had been traded during the episode. It’s only reasonable that Clippard would turn off the show so he could figure out more important things. You know, like where he’s going to live the next few months.

Also, c’mon, Rick Hahn. What are you doing? You can’t just make trades during peak television hours on Sunday night. Not cool, man.

Here’s what we know about Clippard’s situation. The tweet above by Jake Kaplan came out at 5:55 p.m. Central. The Astros play at 7:40 p.m. Central. While there’s a chance Clippard was able to watch the rest of the program before the game, it’s more than likely he didn’t have time. He was probably busy meeting teammates, members of the organization and talking to the media. It wouldn’t look great if he immediately isolated himself in the clubhouse to watch the rest of the episode, though we can understand the temptation.

He’s probably waiting until late tonight to watch the show at the earliest. Well, unless he watches it with a significant other. If that’s the case, who knows when Clippard will see … actually, no spoilers here. We’re not monsters.

We won’t spoil “Game of Thrones” for Clippard, and you shouldn’t either. Let him watch and enjoy the show on his own time. He had more important things to do last night.

“Twin Peaks,” though, that’s another story. You can’t spoil a show if you don’t understand what the heck is going on in the first place.
