Round three between Chippewa and Norwayne is now set in stone, and four other local teams — Hiland, Northwestern and Waynedale girls and Hiland boys — earned district final berths with wins Monday.

Div. III Revere District

Standout Shelby Vaughn bagged the game's first goal in the eighth minute off a pass from Maria Rickett and the Bobcats never looked back in beating Independence.

"This is big, seeing some of the young girls stepping up, taking initiative and trusting their skills," said Bobcats coach Jason Zimmerly. "They are starting to click. It's great to have five seniors, have the experience. They have to be the ones to step up and make something happen and they did. The defense stepped up and played a tremendous game."

No. 2 Chippewa 5, No. 7 Mapleton 0

The Chipps sealed their end of the deal by knocking off Mapleton, a team it beat 5-0 earlier in the season with four goals in the first 12 minutes. This night, they didn't duplicate the scoring feat inside of 12 minutes, but the copied the final score.

Delaney Marshall scored a hat trick and had one assist, while Annie Henegar and Gabi Gartin both tallied one goal. Cally West, Lauren Beach and Henegar all finished with one assist.

Posting the clean sheet was goalkeeper Madison Breeden and her defensive unit.

"Mapleton played great game tonight," said Chippewa coach Ruth Coney. "Mia (Rodriguez) and Elena (Moyer) controlled the midfield and connected so well with our offense. We had great offensive play from Annie (Henegar), Delaney (Marshall), Cally (West), Lauren (Beach) and Delaney (McNab)."

Coney made sure to note the postseason success of the Wayne County Athletic League as well.

"We will have four teams in the three district finals," said Coney. "That's very exciting."

Round three of Chippewa-Norwayne is set for Thursday at Revere High School at 6 p.m. with a district championship on the line.

Div. III Strongsville District

No. 8 Waynedale 4, No. 22 Andrews Osborne 1

Waynedale earned the win over Andrew Osborne to advance to its first district final in program history after making just its second district semi appearance in program history.

The Bears put together a complete performance, with outstanding play from its biggest playmakers and top-notch goalkeeping from McKenna Baney in net.

Skye Morris, Nayeli Cruz and Madie Frederick each scored goals and Abigail Polen converted a penalty kick as the Bears jumped out to a 3-0 lead and never looked back. Baney made sure Andrews Osborne never seriously threatened, making 11 saves.

Waynedale advances to face No. 3 Wickliffe in Thursday's 6 p.m. district final at Strongsville High School.

The Huskies move on to face top-seeded Manchester in Thursday's district championship game at Northwest High School at 6 p.m.

Div. III South Range District

No. 3 Hiland 1, No. 9 Cardinal Mooney 0

Emily Gingerich scored in the fifth minute to give Hiland an early lead, which the Hawks made stand up for the rest of the night. Mooney tested Hiland's defense on several occasions, but Bryn Yoder was there to slam the door shut, making seven saves to secure the clean sheet.

The Hawks move on the Thursday's district title game at South Range High School, facing off with No. 5 Badger.

BOYS

Div. III East District

Scoring for the Hawks were Caedon Hershberger, Zach Gingerich and Zeke Bodiker. Also scoring for Hiland were Christian Mullet and Ohlen Troyer as goalkeeper Chase Coblentz tossed the shutout with four saves.

"We got off to a fantastic start in a huge rivalry game and were able to cruise from there," said Hawks coach Scott Bodiker. "We have had so many classic tournament games with Rosecrans over the years, it was very nice to get out in front early and ease our way home."

Hiland faces Steubenville Catholic Central in Wednesday's district final at 6:30 at Sandy Valley High School.
