Playground Football: How Texas can unlock the best of Quinn Ewers

Texas quarterback Quinn Ewers has struggled on the field lately.

You don’t have to look very far to hear criticism of the freshman quarterback. Despite the criticism, he is still the five-star player he was made out to be two years ago.

Ewers is a playmaker. Albeit, he most excels making off schedule plays when things break down. Texas hasn’t played to that strength of late.

Early in the season, Ewers did well on the move with plays that lent themselves to improvisation. Since, the Ohio State transfer has been off target on throws he doesn’t as easily complete.

For Steve Sarkisian to bring the best out of the young gunslinger, he will need to make the game fun again for the talented passer. Sarkisian can start by calling more plays to Ewers’ strengths.

Here are a few examples of what Ewers has been at his best for Texas.

Perfect throw, perfect catch

Last second improvisation

On the money

Pitch and catch

Dime on the run

Perfect placement
