Play ball! Monday's Fantastic Five MetroWest and Milford area high school athletes

They weren't fooled. These Fantastic Five MetroWest and Milford area athletes started off the month - and season - in strong fashion.

They scored goals in bunches, kept the opposition off the board and belted the ball into the outfield.

Without further ado, here's the Fantastic Five from Monday, April 1:

EMMY BEAUCHESNE & SIYA ARDE, Algonquin girls tennis

The pair earned straight set wins for the Titans in a 5-0 win over AMSA on Monday. Beauchesne beat Ashley Ware 6-0, 6-0 at No. 1 singles, while Arde took out Ava Daly 6-0, 6-0 at No. 3 singles. Siyona Bhagwar won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 2 singles against Saisha Kolluri for Algonquin (1-0). At No. 1 doubles, the Titans' Claire Wallace and Becca White won 6-1, 6-0 against Rachel Chennankara and Sameera Patnala of AMSA (0-1). Sophie Kopstein and Srikari Vissi finished the sweep 6-0, 6-3 against Katina Gakis and Sahasra Jangareddi at No. 2 doubles.

EMILY CARNEY, Franklin girls lacrosse

She pumped in five goals with nine draw controls, as the Panthers beat Attleboro 19-4 on Monday. Katie Ryan contributed four goals and two assists for Franklin (1-0).

AVA McLEOD, AMSA softball

The freshman opened her second varsity season throwing a one-hitter Monday in a 12-0 win over Marlborough. She struck out six in the circle for the Eagles (1-0) and added a double and a triple with two RBIs in the batters box. Erin Seder notched the hit for Marlborough (0-1).

WYATT PASTORE, Dover-Sherborn boys lacrosse

The senior captain poured in five goals with two assists in a 13-3 victory for the Raiders (1-0) over Bellingham on Monday.

ALEX VOSBURGH, Blackstone Valley Tech baseball

He drove in three runs and crushed two doubles on a 3-for-4 day, as the Beavers won their opener 6-2 over Bellingham. Robby Poirier also went 2-for-4 for BVT (1-0). Ryan Nolan led the Blackhawks (0-1) with two hits.

WESTBOROUGH 6, Grafton 2: Nick Bellofatto smoked a three-run double in the second inning for the Rangers (1-0) on Monday. Westborough's Andy Cerniglia threw two shutout innings to earn the save, while Justin McCafferty had four strikeouts in five innings to earn the win.

LINCOLN-SUDBURY 7, Framingham 1: Liam Curley had three hits including a double, scored two runs and added an RBI for the Warriors on Monday. Logan Umbach doubled and drove in a run among his two his and scored twice or L-s (1-0). Peter Abair earned the win after striking out five in four innings, while Simon Fletcher picked up the three-inning save with six Ks.

HOPEDALE 5, Bay Bath 0: Brayden Lewis contributed two hits, two runs and an RBI, as the Blue Raiders (1-0) exploded for five runs in the third inning Monday. Hopedale's Will Adamski added two RBIs, while Mike Rutkowski allowed just one hit over 5 2/3 shutout innings.

MAYNARD 4, Assabet 1: Assabet (0-1) pitcher Jake Sweeney struck out eight in 3 2/3 innings Monday.

MARLBOROUGH 2, AMSA 1: Panthers pitcher Tyler Moore struck out seven and allowed just one run in six innings to earn the win on opening day Monday. Sheamus Mahoney (RBI) and Dylan Romano (run) each had a hit for Marlborough (1-0). Jack Cincotta struck out all three batters he faced in the seventh to earn the save.

OLIVER AMES 5, Franklin 2: Henry DiGiorgio doubled and scored a run for the Panthers (0-1) in their opener Monday. Matthew Luccini, Cole Sidwell and Matt Miller added an RBI each. Leo Muse struck out five in 2 2/3 relief innings, allowing just a hit and a walk.

Softball

WEST BOYLSTON 10, Assabet 3: Emily Brennion drove in a run for Assabet (0-1) on Monday.

NIPMUC 5, Shrewsbury 4: Janelle Scirocco (2 doubles, RBI), Sera DeBaggis and Brynn DiAnni each had three hits for the Warriors (1-0) on Monday. Nipmuc's Bridget Klupa contributed two hits.

Boys lacrosse

BRISTOL-PLYMOUTH 10, Tri-County 4: Dylan Sullivan scored two goals for the Cougars (0-1) on Monday.

MEDWAY 10, Dedham 6: Justin Pillard put away five goals with one assist Monday. Mustangs goalie Will Parella kept Dedham off the board for two quarters to help Medway (2-0, 2-0 TVL) rally. Drew McCarthy controlled the faceoff circle for the Mustangs.

AMSA 7, Groton-Dunstable 1: Luc Masse gathered three goals and an assist, while Tavin Hirsh and Colin Glynn each had a goal and assist for the Eagles (1-0) on Monday.

Girls lacrosse

WESTBOROUGH 14, North Middlesex 2: Kate Sams scored five goals for the Rangers on Monday. Mae Abraham contributed three goals and three assists for the Rangers (3-0), who have raced to an unbeaten start.

WESTWOOD 15, Ashland 4: Anna Magennis contributed to every Clocker tally with two goals and two assists for Ashland (0-2, 0-2 TVL).

NORTHBRIDGE 14, AMSA 12: Maeve Powers led the Eagles (0-1) with four goals Monday.

Boys volleyball

NATICK 3, Wayland 0: Joe Kelly paced the Warriors with eight kills and two digs in a 25-22, 25-20, 25-14 Redhawks win. Finn Bell (three digs) added six kills, while Dylan Engelhardt put down five.

KEEFE TECH 3, Assabet 0: C.J. Sok and Mateus Silva (three blocks) put down nine kills each for the Broncos (2-0) in a 25-11, 25-6, 25-5 win Monday. Keefe Tech's Bryan Costa fired seven aces.

Girls tennis

ASHLAND 5, Northbridge 0: Aaruni Singh paced the Clockers with a 6-0, 6-0 win at over Callie Jee at No. 1 singles Monday. Ashland's Chrissy Vareughese and the No. 2 double team of Erica Brown and Julia Diamond won in straight sets. Vareughese bested Kate Leonard, while the doubles team won against Emily Kelly and Emily Billmyer. At No. 2 singles, Ashland's Sophie Abrahams took out Jordyn Priore 6-0, 6-1. The No. 1 doubles team of Gabby Van Beek and Irene Kim survived a wild 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 10-6 victory to ensure the sweep against Carhleigh Mitchell and Kelsey Costello.

Girls golf

WESTBOROUGH 27.5, Nashoba 22.5: Shelby Dayer carded a 48 to pace the Rangers (1-0) on Monday.
