Plainview softball takes down St. James in AHSAA elimination game, two wins from state title

OXFORD — Plainview softball is once again back in the state championship game.

This time they had to battle through the elimination bracket, the latest win coming in convincing fashion against St. James, 6-2. The Bears will face off with Opp later on Friday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. on Choccolocco Park's signature field. The Bears will have to win twice against Opp to defend their state title.

The Bears struck in the first inning, thanks to a Chloe Hatch RBI triple and Jada Hampton getting her home the next play. They struck again in the third inning, with Hampton bringing in another run before Hannah Regular scored Hampton.

Hampton continued her strong day at the plate with an RBI double, scoring Graidin Haas in the fifth. Regula backed it up with a sac-fly that scored Hatch.

St. James scored in the fifth and seventh inning but it wasn't enough. The Trojans season ends at 38-4 after they took home the central regional.
