PFF lists Eagles as the best fit for Tyrann Mathieu in NFL free agency

The Eagles have a need for a dynamic playmaker in their secondary and Tyrann Mathieu needs a place to display his versatility on the biggest stage.

It’s clear that there is mutual interest between the all-world safety and Philadelphia, but it appears that money and his hometown New Orleans Saints could be a deterrent.

Pro Football Focus recently took a look at the best fit for the top remaining NFL free agents, and Mathieu and the Eagles are a perfect marriage.

Mathieu brings more juice down in the box and as an open-field tackler without giving up much in terms of coverage capability. He could be a perfect pairing with Eagles safety Anthony Harris, who re-signed on another one-year flier in Philadelphia. Both players can patrol the deep third or come down and make plays in the run game, presenting defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon with a lot of options.

A swiss army knife in the secondary, Mathieu would give Jonathan Gannon the weapon he needs in the secondary, while still allowing Anthony Harris to play towards his strengths on the backend.

The money shouldn’t be a deterrent and Howie Roseman should make this deal happen asap.
