Petoskey soccer can't keep pace with TC West in second half

TRAVERSE CITY — When the Petoskey boys’ soccer team defeated Traverse City West earlier this season, it came as the first win over the Titans in more than a decade.

So doing it twice in the same season – with that opportunity on hand Thursday in Traverse City – would have made for quite the historic season.

Would have.

That second win for the Northmen was spoiled by a 6-0 final for the Titans, putting a close to a five-game win streak that began with that last win over West earlier in the month of September.

A 0-0 game at the half, the second half became filled with red thanks to card after card in the direction of the Northmen.

Charlie Smith and the Northmen held serve with TC West for a half, before things then fell apart against the host Titans.

Down a coach, then down a player, the Petoskey let in a pair of goals within five minutes of each other, then the floodgates opened in the eventual loss.

Petoskey fell to 7-6-3 overall and 5-1-1 within the Big North, while West took the lead within the Big North at 6-1. They also improved to 12-1-1 overall on the year.
