Penn, Northridge win NIC, NLC high school boys swim titles

Penn won the Northern Indiana Conference boys swim title Saturday at Elkhart Aquatic Center while Northridge claimed the Northern Lakes Conference boys championship at Concord High School.

Northern Indiana Conference boys swimming

Penn won eight of 12 events, including three meet records, to win the Northern Indiana Conference boys swim meet at the Elkhart Aquatic Center Saturday.

The Kingsmen beat out Riley, 640-429, for the team title. Elkhart was third with a 367 score.

Riley won the other four events on its way to the runnerup finish.

Penn set new meet records in all three of the relay events. The 200 medley squad of Chris Oberlie, Cole Stevenson, Leo Ni and Reid Ohlson) set a record time of 1:33.40. The 200 freestyle relay team of Stevenson, Nate Temeles, Seth Werntz and Ohlson had a record time of 1:27.50 while the 400 freestyle team of Matthew Weeks, Nate Temels, Ni and Ohlson set a new mark of 3:11.48.

Other events winners for the Kingsmen were Nate Temeles in the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle, Stevenson in the 200 individual medley, Weeks in the 500 freestyle and Oberlie in the 100 backstroke.

Chris Bartmess was a record-setter for Riley in the 100 breastroke with a time of 56.07 and also won the 100 butterfly. Riley teammates Padraig Chapman won the 50 freestyle and Eliot Riem won the 1-meter diving event.

Northern Lakes Conference boys swimming

Sawyer Lehman won two events and swam a leg of the winning 200 medley relay team to lead Northridge to the Northern Lakes Conference boys swimming title at Concord High School Saturday.

Lehman won the 200 individual medley, the 100 backstroke and swam a leg of the winning 200 medley relay team as the Raiders got past Concord, 380-348. Wawasee was third at 347.5. The other members of the Raiders winning relay team are Evan Haney, Jeremiah Bekhterev and Tim Blough.

The other winner for Northridge was Haney in the 500 freestyle.

Goshen had a double winner in Levi Moser, who claimed the 200 freestyle and the 100 freestyle. He also swam the first leg of the winning 200 freestyle relay.
