Patriots podcast: Why Mac Jones’ breakout game is likely coming

The New England Patriots have continued to protect Mac Jones with conservative play-calling. And Jones appears to be protecting the Patriots from himself, with check-downs and short passes.

It made sense against the New York Jets, who started their rookie quarterback, Zach Wilson. He threw four interceptions, which ruined any shot and New York getting a win. Jones needed to do very little to put up points and move on to Week 3. So in Week 1, the Patriots seemed to protect Jones in his debut and in Week 2, Jones appeared content to let the Jets force their own mistakes. So when the heck will the Patriots unleash Jones? Will it be Week 3 against the New Orleans Saints? Or will it be in Week 4 against Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers?
