Patriots might be ruled out of WR Mike Evans sweepstakes early

The New England Patriots need playmaking wide receiver help, and one possible option could be former Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans. However, Evans has certain parameters that the Patriots may not be able to meet.

Bleacher Report’s Jordan Schultz spoke with Evans’ agent Deryk Gilmore about what the star receiver will be looking for in his next team.

“Mike wants to play with an elite quarterback in an offense that will showcase him — and be paid like a top wide receiver,” said Gilmore, per Schultz. “He doesn’t want to play with a rookie QB. Winning a Super Bowl is a key priority.”

Evans recorded 79 catches for 1,255 yards and 13 touchdowns in 2023. It was yet another productive season in what has been a consistent overall career. He has tallied 11,680 yards and 94 touchdowns in 10 seasons of play.

Unless something changes, New England does not seem like a destination that Evans would consider, based on the parameters provided.

He would certainly check many of the boxes that the organization wants in a playmaking wideout. Nevertheless, it seems like landing the perennial Pro Bowl receiver might be an uphill climb.
