Paris plays at Marshall to open Illinois boys hoops tourney Feb. 19

Feb. 12—Longtime rivals Paris and Marshall meet Monday, Feb. 19 in the first round of the Class 2A Newton Regional, as the Illinois High School Association boys basketball tournament commences.

Paris (with a 6-22 record this season) is seeded 10th in the Newton Regional field and faces ninth-seeded Marshall (13-14) at 7 p.m. Central Time next Monday in the Lions' gym. Marshall won both regular-season meetings by scores of 61-49 on Dec. 8 and 52-51 on Jan. 25.

Also next Monday in the Newton Regional, the 12th-seeded Oblong-Palestine-Hutsonville co-op team (11-15) plays 6 p.m. at seventh-seeded Mt. Carmel (9-14). Looming in the regional's bye round are second-seeded Teutopolis (19-9) and third-seeded Newton (18-10).

The Class A Casey Regional starts Monday, Feb. 19 with 12th-seeded Martinsville (12-17) playing a 6 p.m. game at 11th-seeded Neoga (5-21), and 14th-seeded Hume Shiloh (21-8) playing at 6 p.m. at third-seeded Casey (14-12). Also vying in the regional are 16th-seeded Broadlands Heritage at second-seeded Tuscola at 6 p.m. next Monday, and 13th-seeded Chrisman (11-15) playing a 6 p.m. game next Monday at eighth-seeded Villa Grove.

In the Class 2A Vandalia Regional, eighth-seeded Vandalia (11-17) plays at sixth-seeded Robinson (8-19) at 6 p.m. Monday, Feb. 19.
