Which Palm Beach County baseball alums are headed to the 2024 College World Series?

The 2024 College World Series is almost here and a number of Palm Beach County alums are headed to Omaha.

Of eight clubs making the trip for this year's CWS, Texas A&M is the only program that doesn't feature a Palm Beach County grad on its roster.

Before the first round of playoffs gets rolling on Friday, meet the local stars of the diamond who propelled their teams through unthinkable upsets and wild walk-offs last weekend.

Which Palm Beach County baseball alums are headed to Omaha for the College World Series?

Florida

Fisher Jameson, junior, RHP

High school: Park Vista

Jameson has been instrumental for the Gators' pitching staff.

The Cobra baseball alum was credited with the win after Florida walked off Clemson in 13 innings, striking out four in a season-high four innings to see his teammates return to the CWS this year. In 31 other appearances − 17 ending in wins − this spring, he built the 5-3 record and 4.35 ERA he's toting to Omaha.

Florida State

Cam Smith, sophomore, INF

High school: Palm Beach Central

In the past two years as a Seminole, Smith has only built on his All-American-worthy high school career with the Broncos. His impressive baseball IQ, fielding skills and .258 batting average for 12 home runs and 36 RBIs in 2023 made him an All-Freshman Team selection for the ACC.

The 6-foot-3, 229-pound hard hitter returned to the diamond this year as FSU's starting third baseman and a top prospect for the 2024 Major League Baseball draft. MLB Pipeline ranked Smith at No. 14 for this year's draft class.

Smith's current batting average of .402 ranks second in the ACC behind .419 for Virginia Tech's Ben Watson, while splitting a conference-leading 79 runs with Virginia's Harrison Didawick. Smith also ranks first in the ACC with 102 hits.

To take down UConn and punch FSU's 24th CWS appearance — the program's first since 2019 — Smith delivered two runs on five hits with two RBIs as the Noles clinched the Super Regional series in two. On the hot corner, Smith's four-out performance was critical to denying the Huskies once and for all in a 13-inning 10-8 victory.

High school: St. John Paul II

Fresh off of his sophomore year at Indian River State College, Adams was selected by the Washington Nationals with the first pick of the third day of the MLB draft last July. Days later, the 6-foot-4, 196-pound righty opted to forgo the big leagues and make the move to Tallahassee.

A season-ending but successful Tommy John surgery back in March barred Adams from making an impact on this season's road to Omaha. Rest assured he'll be back and better next year.

Matty Davis, freshman, OF

High school: Dwyer

Being a first-year roster member didn't stop Davis from having a part in forging FSU's 47-15 record.

After leaving a foundation that set Dwyer up to win its first state championship in program history this spring, Davis got the nod for playing time in five Nole wins as a freshman. He chipped in three runs on two hits in games against Western Carolina, Michigan State and FGCU.

Tally won't be home for Davis next year though. On June 4, he announced that he's hitting the transfer portal.

Kentucky

Austin Fawley, redshirt freshman, C/INF

High school: Park Vista

Spending last summer with the Green Bay Rockers of the Northwoods League set Fawley up for success this spring. After redshirting in 2023, Fawley blossomed as a key cog in Kentucky's batting lineup in nine games. The 2022 South Florida Collegiate Baseball League Rookie of the Year posted three runs on four hits with five RBIs, including home runs against Western Kentucky and Eastern Kentucky, along with 11 total bases.

The Cats will make their first CWS appearance in school history with a record of 45-14.

North Carolina

Parker Haskin, graduate, C

High school: Benjamin

An arrival from Elon, Haskin touched down in Chapel Hill to make an instant impact at UNC, his third school in five years of college baseball.

In 20 games, the 5-foot-9, 185-pounder has been instrumental behind the plate. Haskin put out 33 of 37 chances against a single error and recorded a 3-for-3 outing as UNC walked off reigning CWS champion LSU, ending the Tigers' season in the Chapel Hill Regional. He also helped out the offense throughout the year with three runs on three hits and an RBI in 13 at-bats.

The Tar Heels are headed back to the CWS for the first time since 2018 with a 47-14 record.

North Carolina State

Josh Hogue, sophomore, OF/INF

Josh Hogue's late home run lifted Palm Beach Gardens over Palm Beach Central in a regular season matchup on April 8, 2022.

High school: Palm Beach Gardens

Georgia won't be on anyone's mind in Omaha this year after the Wolfpack scarfed down the Bulldogs in the Super Regionals.

Hogue, the older brother of Palm Beach Gardens stud Luke, saw the Gators to their first state final appearance in school history as a senior in 2022 ahead of starting his collegiate career at Santa Fe. Bringing the 6-foot-2, 192-pound force on offense and defense in from the portal paid off for NC State.

Although Hogue's season came to an end in April following a left leg fracture in the series against Ball State, NC State wouldn't be 38-21 with its first ticket to Omaha since 2021 without his stellar stat lines. He hit .314 for 26 runs on 44 hits with 28 RBIs, including four home runs against Towson, Boston College, Clemson and East Carolina. In 36 starts at left field, Hogue went 58-for-63 with two assists.

Tennessee

Ariel Antigua, freshman, INF

High school: Trinity Christian

Antigua proved wise beyond his years opting for Tony Vitello's top-ranked Vols over South Carolina, where he was committed until September 2022.

Thirty-eight games in the dirt see the 2023 MLB draft prospect to the CWS with a .950 fielding percentage, having made 29 assists and nine putouts as the Vols racked up a 55-12 record.

In the first game of Tennessee's series win over Florida in May, Antigua forced two double plays in the 16-3 slashing of the Gators.

Virginia

Three Benjamin standouts -- (from left) pitcher Freddy Beruvides, shortstop Tristan Head and outfielder Walker Buchanan -- are headed to the University of Virginia next season, where they'll continue to wear orange and blue.

Freddy Beruvides, Jr., freshman, LHP

High school: Benjamin

One of three Buccaneer alums on Virginia's roster, Beruvides has made nine appearances on the hill for the Cavaliers. While facing college bats in his green career has been a learning curve for the lefty, the 2.05 ERA that he left Benjamin with as a senior last spring is a solid indicator of what he'll bring to Charlottesville in the near future. In nine innings pitched for Virginia, Beruvides struck out 11 batters.

Walker Buchanan, freshman, INF

High school: Benjamin

Another member of the freshman crew with limited playing time, Buchanan still made a difference on Virginia's 46-15 run to Omaha, the program's first appearance since 2015. The known power hitter chipped in runs against Hofstra and Louisville with Virginia winning both games, 21-3. Defensively, he notched three putouts in three chances.

Tristan Head, freshman, INF

High school: Benjamin

Playing behind Virginia's Preseason All-American shortstop Griff O'Ferrall will see Head to new potential as he comes up the ranks for Virginia. At present, his efforts have been limited, but the highly touted fielder still saw some at-bats, posting an RBI against Hofstra and a hit against Virginia Military Institute.
