This pair of Michael Jordan shoes is expected to break records at auction
Over the years, Michael Jordan memorabilia in auctions have set some records, at least the game-worn items. And this pair of Air Jordan shoes from Jordan’s last season with the Bulls are set to do the same.
As Jordan laced up his Air Jordan 13’s delivering a sixth NBA title to the Bulls, he was on his way out as part of the ‘Last Dance’ with the franchise in 1997-98. A pair of those 13’s that Jordan laced up in Game 2 of the 1998 NBA Finals are up for auction and are set to break a record.
Per CNN, the game-worn pair will be up for auction by Sotheby’s in New York from April 3 to 11 and are at a high estimate of $4 million. That would break the previous record of $1.47M from a pair of Nike Air Ships that Jordan wore really early in his career. That auction took place in 2021.
“Michael Jordan game-worn sports memorabilia has proven time and time again to be the most elite and coveted items on the market,” said Brahm Wachter, Sotheby’s head of streetwear and modern collectables, in a press release. “However, items from his ‘Last Dance’ season are of a greater scale and magnitude as seen with our record-breaking sale of his Game 1 jersey in 2022.”
The shoes come with a fun story. Following Game 2, Jordan took off the game-worn shoes and signed them for a ball boy in the visiting locker room.
Jordan was known to do that in his career and now this pair will hit the market for collectors.
