Padres 1B Hosmer (back) out of starting lineup

San Diego Padres first baseman Eric Hosmer was held out of Sunday's starting lineup against the San Francisco Giants due to lower back tightness.

Hosmer isn't expected to be available to enter during the contest.

If he indeed sits out the game, it will be the second straight contest Hosmer has missed. He sat out Saturday's game due to what was termed a day off by manager Andy Green.

Hosmer played in all 162 games last season for the Kansas City Royals. He joined the Padres as a free agent in the offseason after receiving an eight-year, $144 million contract.

"I know he's the type of guy that wants to play 162," Green told reporters on Saturday. "We invested in him eight years. It wasn't just to get 162 out of him in '18. This is a tough April stretch. ... We've grinded really hard, we've traveled, we've played at altitude, we've brawled, a little bit of everything. It's just a good day for him to step back, breathe for a second."

Hosmer is batting .288 with one homer and three RBIs in 15 games.
