Is Peter Magowan bowing out?
Based on rumors and blogs, Magowan could be preparing his exit strategy as the Giants' managing general partner, a position he has held since his group of investors bought the team in December 1992, preventing Bob Lurie's sale to a group from St. Petersburg, Fla.
The Giants neither confirmed nor denied a Chicago Tribune blog—written by White Sox beat writer Mark Gonzales, who once covered the Giants for the San Jose Mercury News—reporting that Magowan is expected to step aside as part of a "change of control coming soon."
If Magowan leaves in the near future, his legacy largely will be about Barry Bonds. After all, this is the first year in which Magowan and Bonds weren't together under the Giants' umbrella. ...More |
