Paddy Pimblett reveals he’s around 200 pounds, targets December return in Las Vegas

SAN DIEGO – Paddy Pimblett is enjoying life, and by that, he means not really watching his weight.

The UFC lightweight star made a guest appearance at Saturday’s UFC on ESPN 41 and gave an update on the latest of his fighting career, as well as his weight. Pimblett (19-3 MMA, 3-0 UFC), who fought competed at 155 pounds three weeks ago at UFC Fight Night 208, said he’s stepping close to light heavyweight territory.

“I’m about 200 (pounds),” Pimblett told reporters backstage at UFC on ESPN 41. “I don’t know (if it’s normal). You could say that, you could not say that.”

Some pundits and fans have criticized Pimblett for gaining too much weight in between fights. Pimblett understands it’s not ideal, but think it’s Ok for now. He’ll clean things up in the future once his bouts are a bit more consequential.

“When I’m a little older and I start fighting ranked opponents, I will keep my weight down, but for now, I enjoy putting on a little chub rub on,” Pimblett said.

As far as what’s next, the Englishman has plenty of people calling his name, including prospect Terrance McKinney and veteran Drew Dober, among others. Pimblett understands why he’s being targeted by many.

“Everyone wants to fight me, lad,” Pimblett said. “They all got less than 100,000 followers, and I’m at 1.8 million or something. That’s why they want to fight me. I’m also not a very scary dude. I don’t look that intimidating, lad. So people think, ‘Oh, I can beat him.’ And when you get in the cage with me, and you’ve got to solve the puzzle, you can’t.”

Pimblett won’t call anyone out and will wait to see who the UFC offers for his next trip to the octagon. However, as far as date and location, Pimblett does have something in mind.

“I think I’m going to fight in Vegas,” Pimblett said. “That’s what I’m hoping. I’ve seen the card get slated for December 10.”
