Pacers to guarantee Keifer Sykes for remainder of 2021-22 season

Indiana Pacers rookie Keifer Sykes will have his non-guaranteed contract become guaranteed for the remainder of the season, according to Shams Charania of The Athletic.

Sykes, who went undrafted in 2015, signed a two-year contract with the Pacers last month after a strong season with the Fort Wayne Mad Ants in the NBA G League. The contract became guaranteed this season when Sykes was not waived prior to the 5 p.m. EST deadline on Friday.

The 28-year-old is averaging 10.4 points, 3.6 assists and 2.4 rebounds in five games since joining the team. He has started in each of the last three games for the Pacers and is averaging 16.7 points, 5.3 assists and 3.3 rebounds over that span.

Sykes previously played with several teams overseas and made stops in Korea, Turkey, Italy, China, Greece and Australia before signing with the Pacers. His journey proved to be one of the feel-good stories of the NBA this season as he appears to have finally earned his shot in the NBA.
