Ozzie Pratt slams Oxford after Southern Miss baseball’s win against Ole Miss

HATTIESBURG — A simple glance at the box score and Southern Miss baseball’s roster connects the perfect fairytale.

A Golden Eagle from Oxford — the home of Ole Miss — providing the go-ahead RBI and a stunning defensive play against the Rebels in a crucial victory in May.

But Ozzie Pratt, a shortstop who transferred to Southern Miss from BYU this season, wants to make it extremely clear: He is not from Oxford.

“I’m from Senatobia,” he said after Southern Miss’ 7-4 win over Ole Miss Tuesday at Pete Taylor Park. “I don’t claim that place. That place sucks. I hate that place.”

Pratt played at Magnolia Heights High School in Senatobia, about a 45-minute drive from Oxford, but he does have connections to Ole Miss. One of his younger brothers, Cooper Pratt, was a former Ole Miss signee but never played for the Rebels after he got drafted and signed with the Milwaukee Brewers organization out of high school. Another younger brother, Quincy Pratt, is committed to Ole Miss in the class of 2027.

Ozzie Pratt, a junior, was an integral part in Southern Miss’ comeback win that snapped a five-game losing streak to the Rebels and extended its season-long win streak to eight games. He hit the go-ahead double in the sixth inning and then made a phenomenal running throw to first base for the final out of the eighth inning.

Ozzie Pratt is the only Southern Miss player to have started every game this season. He is hitting .318 with three home runs, 34 RBIs and 43 runs.
