OU softball run-rules Seattle in Mary Nutter Classic, extends win streak to 66 games

CATHEDRAL CITY, Calif. — Freshman Ella Parker blasted two home runs, helping top-ranked OU stretch its winning streak once again, beating Seattle 8-0 in six innings in their first game of the day Sunday at the Mary Nutter Collegiate Classic.

The Sooners improved to 13-0 and stretched their NCAA-record winning streak to 66 games.

OU will take on Loyola Marymount shortly in their final game at the event.

Sooners coach Patty Gasso has talked often this week about the way the two freshmen, Parker and Kasidi Pickering, have handled things early in their OU careers.

They both came up big Sunday, going a combined 3 for 4 with a walk.

But Parker was at the forefront.

With the Sooners leading 1-0 in the second, the Los Angeles product smashed a 2-1 pitch over the fence in left-center to put OU up 3-0.

Then in the fifth, the left-hander pulled a three-run homer out to right to stretch the lead to 7-0.

Karlie Keeney was mostly in control for the Sooners, striking out five and walking one, allowing four hits, in 4 2/3 innings.

She got plenty of help from her defense though.

Jayda Coleman, especially, came up big for the Sooners.

With the game scoreless in the second, Taylor Fitch drilled a ball into the right-center field gap for what looked to be a double.

But Coleman quickly got the ball and fired it into second, getting a stunned Fitch for the second out.

In the bottom half, Riley Ludlam put the Sooners ahead with a homer to left.

In the fourth, Fitch singled again with a runner on first this time.

Mikee Morris was waved home, and Tiare Jennings cut her down with a throw to Ludlam to keep Seattle scoreless.

The next batter loops one into right center, where Coleman laid down with a full-extension dive to end the inning.

Parker finished 2 for 3 with five RBIs.
