Oscar Smith quarterback Ethan Vasko commits to Kansas

Oscar Smith star quarterback Ethan Vasko has committed to Kansas.

Vasko, the most prolific quarterback in Hampton Roads over the past two seasons, originally committed to Old Dominion. But he decommitted on Sunday, saying on Twitter that he had “recently been presented with additional opportunities that I believe [are] a better fit for me to achieve my education and career goals.”

That better fit turned out to be the Jayhawks. Vasko announced his commitment to KU on Monday night on Twitter.

Vasko, a senior, led Oscar Smith to a second consecutive state championship on Saturday. He finished the season with 2,977 passing yards and 37 touchdown passes and accounted for a state-record 10 TDs in a region playoff victory over Cosby.

During an abbreviated spring 2021 season, he accounted for 2,230 total yards and 34 touchdowns with no interceptions in nine games.

Vasko is rated as a three-star recruit by 247Sports and was No. 7 in The Pilot and Daily Press Class of 2022 rankings.
