How one high school football expert projects districts involving Peoria-area teams

Peoria Notre Dame head coach Pat Armstrong talks with his team before they take the field against Peoria High in a Week 9 football game Friday, Oct. 20, 2023 at Dozer Park in Peoria.

Voting is underway for a change to the Illinois High School Association football scheduling.

IHSA member schools have until Dec. 18 to cast their ballots to either keep the current scheduling system or adapt a district format. The IHSA would predetermine the schools within the eight enrollment classes and places them in eight "districts."

Districts would need 512 playoff-eligible teams to work as designed, according to IHSA playoff guru Steve Soucie of Friday Night Drive. Soucie says the proposal, however, doesn't have a scenario where there are not enough or too many teams to fill the 512 districts spots.

Here are the projected districts involving Peoria-area teams, according to Soucie:

Class 7A

District 8: Pekin, Alton Belleville West, Collinsville, Granite City, Moline, Normal Community and Quincy

Class 6A

District 6: LaSalle-Peru, Bremen, Crete-Monee, Kankakee, Ottawa, Providence, T.F. North, Harvey Thornton

District 7: Dunlap, Peoria High, Richwoods, Galesburg, Washington, East Moline United Township, Normal West, Rock Island
