Olu Fashanu named a finalist for Campbell Trophy
Penn State offensive lineman Olu Fashanu is well on his way to a future in the NFL, but he’s not just all about football. Fashahnu is a highly-regarded student as well. Fashanu was named one of the 16 finalists for this season’s William V. Campbell Trophy by the National Football Foundation and the College Football Hall of Fame.
Referred to as the academic Heisman, the Campbell Trophy is presented annually to the nation’s top scholar-athlete who best combines academic success and football performance along with leadership. Just being named a finalist for the Campbell Trophy is an honor by itself.
In a press release from Penn State on Wednesday, it was reported Fashanu has a 3.45 GPA in Supply Chain and Information Systems. He is the program’s 20th ll-time member of the scholar-Athlete Class. Former quarterback Sean Clifford is the most recent Penn State player in that group before Fashanu, in 2021.
Fashanu is hoping to become the second Penn State football player in program history to bring home the prestigious award.
Penn State has one Campbell Trophy winner in program history. That distinction belongs to John Urschell in 2013. Urschel recently became a math professor at MIT, where he studied to get his Ph.D. during his NFL career.
