Ole Miss wins game No. 1 against Lady Vols

No. 12 Tennessee opened its final Southeastern Conference road series of the 2022 season on a losing note, falling to Ole Miss, 5-4, Saturday in Oxford, Mississippi.

The Rebels (35-14, 9-10 SEC) notched a walk-off victory when Catelyn Riley hit an RBI single off Lady Vols’ reliever Ryleigh White (2-2) at OM Softball Complex.

Ole Miss led when Paige Smith hit a two-run home run in the first inning.

Tennessee (34-13, 11-7 SEC) scored its first run of the contest with Kaitlin Parsons scoring as McKenna Gibson reached base on an error.

The Lady Vols pulled even later in the frame on an RBI single by Lair Beautae.

Ole Miss regained a lead in the fourth inning with an RBI double by Smith. The Rebels would extend its advantage to 4-2 when Bre Roper doubled in the fifth inning.

The Lady Vols scored twice in the seventh inning, to tie the game, 5-5. Ivy Davis hit a home run and Zaida Puni hit an RBI single.

Riley, (11-3), who drove in the winning run, earned a win for the Rebels. She surrendered one run, two hits and two walks.

Erin Edmoundson started and pitched 4.2 innings for the Lady Vols. She allowed four runs, four hits, three walks, while striking out seven.

White pitched two innings and yielded one run and three hits.
