New Oklahoma State football uniforms feature a nod to Barry Sanders' era with OSU Cowboys
STILLWATER — Oklahoma State unveiled its new football uniforms for the 2023 season that blends a touch of history with a fresh look for the future.
The block-lettering “Oklahoma State” across the top of the jersey, over large numbers, brings a feel of the Thurman Thomas and Barry Sanders era of Cowboy football in the 1980s. The jerseys have numbers on the shoulders, and a stripe pattern that is a throwback to the past as well.
But the uniforms, which the university announced on Wednesday, contain other modern aspects of style and markings, as well as the variety of color combinations OSU has become known for.
The new collection includes two white jersey options, one with black lettering and one with orange lettering, as well as orange and black jerseys, each with white lettering. And each is matched with an orange, black or white pant option.

New Oklahoma State football uniforms ditch the gray look
The new collection does not include a gray uniform, which has long been a polarizing topic among fans.
Oklahoma State is one of a small group of schools wearing uniforms made using Nike FUSE technology in 2023. FUSE (Field Utility Special Edition) uniforms combine research-backed innovation with a precision fit to help allow ultimate performance on the field. Among other features, they are lightweight and provide thermal regulation using Nike Dri-Fit technology.
This is OSU’s first full uniform overhaul since the previous style debuted in 2016.
Photos of the uniforms released by the university are modeled with the current collection of helmets, which has been evolving over the last several years. The photos included the traditional OSU brand on a white helmet, the full-body Pistol Pete logo on a black helmet and the cursive Cowboys on both orange and white helmets.
