Oklahoma Sooners awarded No. 1 seed in NCAA Regionals

The Oklahoma Sooners were selected as the number one seed in the NCAA Softball tournament and will host Regionals in Norman at Marita Hynes Field. Their first opponent in the tournament will be the Southwestern Athletic Conference Champion, the Prairie View A&M Panthers.

The other two teams in the Norman Regional will be the Big Ten’s Minnesota Golden Gophers and the Texas A&M Aggies of the SEC.

On the other side of the bracket, the Oklahoma State Cowgirls, coming off of a Big 12 Championship, were awarded the no. 7 seed and will also host their Regional in Stillwater. They will open against Fordham with North Texas facing Nebraska in the other matchup of round one.

As of now, Big 12 Freshman of the Year Jordy Bahl is “day to day” according to Coach Patty Gasso. Bahl missed the entire Big 12 tournament due to arm soreness. This isn’t something to panic over but is still a cause for concern for the best pitching staff in the nation.

Oklahoma celebrates following the Big 12 Softball tournament game between the Oklahoma and Iowa State at the USA Softball Hall of Fame Stadium in Oklahoma City, Friday, May 13, 2022.

The first pitch for OU vs. PVAMU will happen at 6:30 CST on May 20. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and broadcast on the local radio station 107.7 “The Franchise.”

It will be interesting to see how the Sooners rebound after losing the Big 12 Championship in extra innings.
