Oklahoma apparently wasn’t too sorry for planting a flag at Ohio State’s midfield logo earlier in the season.

After holding on to beat Texas 29-24 on Saturday, Oklahoma players gathered around the midfield logo at the Cotton Bowl to plant an Oklahoma flag. The two rivals annually play at the neutral site in Dallas, so this wasn’t a statement on Texas’ home turf per se. But it’s still a fun bit of jousting.

In the moments after Oklahoma’s win over Ohio State in Week 2, OU quarterback Baker Mayfield grabbed an Oklahoma flag and ran to Ohio State’s midfield logo and planted it on the turf. Two days later Mayfield apologized and said he got caught up in an emotional moment and didn’t mean to be disrespectful.

Apparently there are different standards of respect in a rivalry game. Or something, given that Oklahoma has taken to doing the flag plant after beating Texas. The apology for the Ohio State thing was unnecessary to begin with and looks even more absurd given what happened Saturday.

Mayfield also had a lot of fun after the win over the Longhorns. After donning the golden cowboy hat he pretended to ride a horse off the field in celebration.

The win moves Oklahoma to 5-1 a week after the Sooners lost to Iowa State at home. The Cyclones, inspired by Mayfield’s move at Ohio State, planted an Iowa flag at OU’s logo after that game.
