Oklahoma-Oklahoma State highlights: Cowboys win final Big 12 Bedlam

The Bedlam rivalry is one of the oldest college football rivalries in the country. Oklahoma and Oklahoma State have battled on the football field since 1904 — before Oklahoma became the 46th U.S. state. It's the second-longest uninterrupted rivalry in FBS history behind Minnesota-Wisconsin. If this indeed the end, Oklahoma State had the last laugh.

The 2023 Bedlam game was the final Big 12 edition of the rivalry with Oklahoma joining the SEC starting in 2024. Oklahoma led all-time with a record of 91-19-7 and the Sooners have won seven of the last eight Bedlam games on the football field.

But the Cowboys came through in the clutch to win the final Big 12 Bedlam 27-24 at home.

Oklahoma and Oklahoma State traded touchdowns to start the game. A fumble by the Sooners' Jovantae Barnes gave the Cowboys the football back and quarterback Alan Bowman's 13-yard touchdown made it 14-7.

Oklahoma State added a field goal before Oklahoma quarterback Dillon Gabriel found wide receiver Drake Stoops for a six-yard score halfway through the second quarter. A fumble on the ensuing Cowboys drive led to a missed field goal for the Sooners and Oklahoma went into halftime down 17-14.

Turnovers doomed multiple second-half drives for both teams. Gabriel's interception on the first possession of the second half gave Oklahoma State the ball but the Cowboys' offense turned it over on downs inside the red zone. Oklahoma running back Tawee Walker scored from 23 yards out to give the Sooners their first lead of the game at 21-17.

Oklahoma State put together an eight-play, 97-yard drive to score a go-ahead touchdown put the Cowboys up 24-21. The teams traded field goals, the last of which came after a controversial third down incompletion for the Sooners from the Cowboys' 18. Gabriel threw to Stoops in the end zone who went down after contact with Cowboys cornerback Dylan Smith. No penalty was called, drawing criticism from the broadcast booth and social media.

Oklahoma had the ball back with 1:46 to go but the Cowboys defense held on and got a stop on fourth down. The 118th meeting between the two teams went Oklahoma State's way for just the 20th time in more than a century.
