Oklahoma high school swimming: Top storylines, swimmers to watch at 2024 state meets

The 2024 Oklahoma high school state swimming races are set for this week in Jenks.

The Class 5A prelims are scheduled for Thursday before the Class 5A finals and Class 6A prelims on Friday. The Class 6A finals will be Saturday.

Here are three Oklahoma City-area storylines and 10 swimmers to watch.

OKC-area storylines for 2024 OSSAA state swim meets

Will the Carl Albert boys get it done? The Class 5A Titans won three straight girls swimming titles from 2019-21, but they’ve never claimed a title on the boys swimming side. After losing by just one point at the state meet last year and winning the Class 5A West Regional in Edmond this month, they’ll try to make program history.

Shawnee girls eye third straight Class 5A title. The Wolves won their first two swimming championships in school history the last two seasons and will go for a three-peat this year. Shawnee enters as the Class 6A East Regional champion.

Edmond North looks to contend in Class 6A. The Huskies’ boys and girls teams both claimed titles at the Class 6A West Regional. The boys are the defending state champions in Class 6A.

OKC area swimmers to watch at 2024 OSSAA state swim meets

Boys swimmers to watch

Andrew Burgess, Sr., Edmond Memorial: He won the 500-yard freestyle in 4 minutes, 44.43 seconds at the Class 6A West Regional.

Connor Leader, So., Newcastle: Leader won two championships at the Class 5A West Regional. He finished the 100 butterfly in 54.85 and 100 backstroke in 56.91.

Garrett Levendofsky, Jr., Edmond North: He claimed four titles at the Class 6A West Regional. Levendofsky competed in the 100 freestyle (47.47), 200 individual medley (1:55.90), 200 freestyle relay (1:29.24) and 400 freestyle relay (3:20.34).

John Nguyen, So., Bishop McGuinness: He’s coming off a dominant showing at the Class 5A West Regional, where he won the 200 freestyle (1:49.24) and 200 individual medley (2:11.21).

JD Thumann, So., Norman: He won Class 6A West Regional championships in the 50 freestyle (20.57) and 100 butterfly (49.69).

Girls swimmers to watch

Macy Lewis, Sr., Bishop McGuinness: She’ll try to become the fifth girls swimmer in state history to win eight individual state titles. Lewis, who will continue her career at Texas A&M, is coming off great swims at the Class 6A West Regional. She won the 100 backstroke (56.93) and 100 butterfly (58.19).

Avery Littlefield, Sr., Stillwater: An LSU signee, she won the 50 freestyle in 23.29 and 100 freestyle in 51.42 at the Class 6A East Regional. Littlefield also helped Stillwater win the 200 freestyle relay (1:40.36).

Maddy Lu, Sr., Casady: She claimed two championships at the Class 5A West Regional. Lu won the 100 breaststroke in 1:04.73 and 200 individual medley in 2:19.30.

Kaitlyn Simmons, Sr., Harding Charter Prep: She also claimed a pair of titles at the Class 5A West Regional, winning the 200 freestyle (2:07.27) and 500 freestyle (5:36.38).

Caleigh Stoddard, Sr., Edmond North: Stoddard, who will continue her career at Idaho, was one of Edmond North's main stars at the Class 6A West Regional. She won the 100 breaststroke (1:07.71) and 200 individual medley (2:14.16) and helped the Huskies claim the title in the 400 freestyle relay (3:44.22).
