OHS girls fall in STAC semis; Glennon wins Delaware League golf title

Oct. 11—The Oneonta girls soccer team fell to Vestal 8-0 on the road in the Southern Tier Athletic Conference Semifinals Wednesday.

Lilli Rowe tallied 17 saves for the Yellowjackets.

Ava Schmidt scored two goals and had an assist in the win while Katelin Gowe also scored twice.

Oneonta now awaits its first matchup for the Section IV Class B Tournament.

Charlotte Valley 1, South Kortright 0 (Tuesday)

Charlotte Valley defeated South Kortright 1-0 Tuesday at home in a Delaware League contest. Jessica Zuill scored the lone goal late in the first half on an assist from Maeve Carey.

Rhian Bush tallied five saves in the win while Addy Eckert had 11 in the loss.

Charlotte Valley will take on Windham-Ashland-Jewett Saturday at the Wright National Soccer Campus in Oneonta in the Delaware League Championship.

Grady Glennon and the Hunter-Tannersville golf team were triumphant at the Delaware League Championship held at Stamford Golf Course Wednesday.

Glennon helped lead H-T to the team title by shooting a one-under par round of 69 that included a hole-in-one on the eighth hole and birdies on the second, 12th and 16th holes.

Teammate Kate Smith was the second medalist of the day with a round of 83 while South Kortright's Jacob Staroba placed third with an 84.

South Kortright placed second overall thanks to the play of Staroba, Lee Marigliano (89), Connor Quarino (91), Lance McClure (97) and Boston Quarino (97).

Gilboa finished third and was led by Shane O'Hara (86), David Cammer (88) and Matthew Keyser (95).

Other top performances included H-T's Gideon Glennon (88), Stamford/Jefferson's Brandon Harris (88), Charlotte Valley's Cody Keator (89), Windham-Ashland-Jewett's Charlie Mulholland (95) and Shane Begley (95) and Margaretville's Connor Hill (96).

The Cooperstown/Milford cross country team was at Deerfield Wilderness Park Wednesday for a meet that also featured West Canada Valley, New York Mills and Remsen/Old Forge.

Carter Stevens finished first in the boys race with a tie of 18:09.

Other top finishers among the C/M boys were Jonah Hitchcock (seventh, 19:44), Owen Capozza Flannigan (12th, 21:24) and Tanner Griffin (16th, 22:26).

On the girls side, Cate Bohler placed fifth in 24:32 and Nora Craig was sixth in 24:45.

Walton 3, Unatego 0 (Tuesday)

The Walton volleyball team improved to 11-0 on the season Tuesday with a straight sets victory over Unatego. The Warriors won by scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-19.

Ella Rhinehart had 13 assists, six aces and five kills, Caroline Gorence had seven kills and four aces, Cadence Stanton had five digs and four aces and Arianna Bohle had five digs in the win for Walton.

For Unatego, Nica Hurlburt had three kills and two aces, Cassidy Barber had five digs and four kills, Mallory Hafele had eight assists and Cailyn Wood had 11 digs.

Oxford defeated Bainbridge-Guilford in four sets on its Senior Night Tuesday by scores of 25-15, 17-25, 27-25, 25-22.

Leading the Blackhawks in the win were Mya-Rae Roys with four kills and three aces, Quinnlin LaMonica with seven kills, two aces and two blocks, Ava Benjamin with 22 assists and two aces and Emerson LaMonica with seven kills.

Leading B-G were Alyssa Finch (five kills, four aces), Kaylynn Crandall (16 assists, five aces) and Peyton Umbra (eight kills).

Each team will be in action Friday as Oxford (8-1) visits Norwich and B-G (5-4) travels to Unatego.
