Ohio State vs. Maryland halftime review: Three things.

The Ohio State Buckeyes have looked like absolute garbage today against the Maryland Terrapins in the first half with the score currently 13-10. Ohio State has looked both bad offensively and defensively. The Buckeyes were favorites by almost four touchdowns heading into today but are now in a dogfight looking simply to get a win.

Most predicted that Ohio State may not look pretty today with Maryland being an obvious look-ahead spot before the game against Michigan, but no one expected the Buckeyes to be losing going into halftime. There are so many things that we could discuss for this halftime piece and 99% of them are negative, but here we go trying to narrow it down to just three.

Penalties

I am not blaming the refs, I am blaming the coaching. This Ohio State team looks undisciplined and unfocused today and it shouldn’t be this bad with everything at stake. Again we expected a potentially slow start, but this is atrocious.

Run game struggles again

Without Miyan Williams this Ohio State run game is one of the worst in the Big Ten. The Buckeyes have 28 rushing yards and TreVeyon Henderson is averaging an abysmal 1.7 yards per carry. The blocking hasn’t been ideal, but Miyan found ways to push the pile more often than not. It might be time to give Dallan Hayden a crack who seems to hit the hold faster instead of dancing around looking for a lane.

Overrated?

I don’t agree with this take entirely, because I do think despite Indiana being awful, it was a nice complete win, but Ohio State has looked miserable in a number of games this season with some glaring weaknesses in their run game and pass defense. There are things that are sore spots and something has to be figured out … like yesterday.
