Ohio State will lead the nation in spring football game attendance for the first time in more than half a decade.

A crowd of 75,122 was announced for the Buckeyes’ annual spring game on April 15, a figure larger than those reported by the other top schools in the Power Five conferences.

Nebraska, which held its spring game on Saturday, drew 66,045 fans, making up the second-biggest crowd this month, followed by the estimated 63,000 that attended Penn State’s Blue-White game the previous weekend. The other attendance leaders include Alabama (58,710), Tennessee (58,473), Oklahoma (54,409), Georgia (54,000), South Carolina (51,000) and Clemson (50,000).

A small handful of spring games remain scheduled for the next two weekends, but none will be played in stadiums that maintain a seating capacity larger than the crowd that had filled most of the Horseshoe to watch the Buckeyes hold their intrasquad scrimmage.

The crowd for Ohio State’s spring game was its largest since 2017, the last year it had been at the top of the Football Bowl Subdivision rankings in spring game attendance. The school then announced attendance as 80,134.

The Buckeyes also led the nation in spring game attendance in 2016 and 2015. Their crowds of 100,189 and 99,391 those years remain the highest-ever attended spring games.

Favorable conditions contributed to the boost in attendance for Ohio State. The temperature at kickoff of this year's spring game was 73 degrees with sunny weather lasting throughout the afternoon.
