Ohio State football game vs. Northwestern will be played at Wrigley Field

Ohio State will play its Nov. 16 football game against Northwestern at Wrigley Field.

Northwestern revealed the site for the game late Wednesday afternoon. With Ryan Field undergoing an $800 million tear-down and rebuild, the Wildcats must play elsewhere in 2024 and ’25.

Soldier Field, the home of the Chicago Bears, was also considered as a possible site, as was a soccer stadium in a south Chicago suburb. But the soccer stadium holds only 20,000. That might suffice for a low-profile opponent, but not for Ohio State.

Wrigley Field on Chicago’s North Side is closer to Evanston, which is just north of the city limit. There also could be a potential scheduling conflict with the Bears at Soldier Field. The NFL schedule will be announced Wednesday night.

Wrigley Field was the Bears’ home from 1921-70 when Soldier Field opened.

Northwestern has played at Wrigley Field twice recently. The Wildcats played Purdue in 2021 and Iowa last November.
