Ohio State basketball coach Chris Holtmann to receive contract extension

The fine folks at Ohio State are throwing some money around to their coaches on Wednesday. We’ve already told you that head football coach Ryan Day received a contract extension and reworked compensation, but he’s not the only one.

According to the release from the OSU athletic department, basketball head coach Chris Holtmann is also receiving a three-year contract extension contingent upon the full Board of Trustees’ approval on Thursday. With the new deal, Holtmann will be on the sideline in the Schottenstein Center through the 2027-2028 season. The new deal also increases his pay $500,000 to a total annual compensation to $3.5 million with a base salary of $1.0 million per year.

During his five seasons at Ohio State, Holtmann has compiled a 107-56 record that includes a 59-40 mark in the Big Ten. The program has won at least 20 games each year and is one of just three programs (joining Kansas and Oregon) to win 20 games and make the NCAA tournament each year it has been held during that time.

Off the field, Holtmann’s teams have had 25 players honored as Academic All-Big Ten, and always conducts himself with class. This is well deserved, and it feels like only a matter of time before Holtmann steers the program to a few Big Ten titles. Hopefully, that is.
