Oakland's Trey Townsend: Horizon League Player of the Year; Jack Gohlke Sixth Man

Oakland men's basketball won the Horizon League regular season title, and its biggest reasons why earned two of the conference's top honors.

Trey Townsend was named the Horizon League Player of the Year and Jack Golhke was named the Sixth Man of the Year on Monday.

Townsend, the 6-foot-6 senior from Oxford, was also named to the All-Horizon League first team after averaging 16.6 points (sixth in conference) and 7.6 rebounds (fourth in conference) this season. Townsend is the third Golden Grizzlie to win this award, joining Kay Felder in 2016 and Kendrick Nunn in 2018.

Gohlke, a 6-3 graduate transfer from Hillsdale College, averaged 12 points per game this season and shot 36.1% from the 3-point line during the regular season. He leads the Horizon League with 3.5 3-point makes per game.

Despite leading the conference in scoring at 20.5 points per game, Detroit Mercy's Jayden Stone did not make any of the three All-Horizon League teams. Tristan Enaruna of Cleveland State, Noah Reynolds of Green Bay, Marques Warrick of Northern Kentucky and Trey Calvin of Wright State were named to the first team. Oakland's Blake Lampman made the second team.

The awards, voted on by the league's head coaches, honored the Golden Grizzlies, which won the regular season conference title for the sixth time under Greg Kampe since the team joined Division I in the 1999-2000 season.

Oakland, the top seed in the Horizon League tournament, has a first-round bye and will host the lowest remaining seed on Thursday night.
