Nuno Espirito Santo has prioritised the signing of a striker in January to sharpen up his Wolves squad. Wolves owners Fosun are ready to give Nuno the funds for a high-profile forward when the transfer window reopens next year, with super-agent Jorge Mendes expected to assist in the search.

Though loan signing Raul Jiminez has impressed at Molineux since joining from Benfica in June, head coach Nuno wants to add an out-and-out goalscorer to fire up his team.

Leo Bonatini has struggled for regular game time this season while Benik Afobe was sold to Stoke in a surprise £12m deal.

It is understood Nuno will also target cover in central midfield and at right-back.

Kevin Thelwell, Wolves' sporting director, said: "We are getting reports on approximately 5,000 players a month – it’s becoming a big process.

"We are not just crossing our fingers and hoping we can get the very best out of him or make something out of someone.

"It makes it very exciting to be searching through a high quantity of players. We are still some way from making hard and fast decisions (about January). The windows are very tough but I’m not complaining."
