No. 1 Tennessee loses first SEC game against Alabama

No. 1 Tennessee (31-3, 12-1 SEC) suffered its second consecutive loss and had its record-setting Southeastern Conference win streak end Friday against Alabama (23-12, 8-5 SEC).

The Crimson Tide defeated Tennessee, 6-3, at Lindsey Nelson Stadium.

Tennessee led 2-0 in the first inning as Drew Gilbert hit an RBI triple. He scored on a single by Trey Lipscomb.

The Crimson Tide scored once in the second and third innings. Alabama scored three runs in the fourth inning.

Tennessee starting Chase Burns (6-1) pitched three innings and yielded five runs, seven hits and one walk, while striking out four.

Will Mabrey relieved Burns and pitched four scoreless innings, surrendering two hits and striking out four.

Blade Tidwell pitched 1.2 innings for the Vols. He gave up one run and two hits, while striking out three. Kirby Connell struck out the lone batter he faced.

Jorel Ortega hit a home run in the sixth inning for Tennessee.
