Hinchcliffe Stadium history

One of the last remaining Negro League stadiums in the country, Hinchcliffe Stadium saw 20 Hall of Famers grace its field over the years - including Josh Gibson (called the "Black Babe Ruth") and Larry Doby (who broke the color barrier in the American League 11 weeks after Jackie Robinson debuted with the Brooklyn Dodgers).

Hinchcliffe Stadium, which opened in 1932 and closed in 1996 after years of neglect, was eventually declared a national landmark and was part of a $103 million redevelopment project in Paterson. The New Jersey Jackals now call Hinchcliffe home after more than two decades at Yogi Berra Stadium on the campus of Montclair State University.
